LFRD2004 V1a (010404) by Vauchez (c)2004 All rights reserved. St-Malo Dinard Pleurtuit regional airport IF AT ALL POSSIBLE, READ THE HTML FILE INSTEAD: LFRD2004_v1a-readme.html ----------------------- First, thank you for downloading LFRD2004, I hope you will enjoy it. This scenery was created entirely with GMax and the latest Microsoft compilers. Everything was made to ensure maximum framerate while giving maximum visual impact, even on humbler machines. This scenery will run just as fast as the default one (which is very bare) with your settings, even though there are litterally thousands of houses, buildings, trees and a detailed airport. It was made by a real life pilot and is totally aimed at recreating the feeling of being there, not so much on the ground (after all, this is a FLIGHT simulator), but at circuit altitudes. This is not about recreating an airport in all its glorious details at the cost of framerate, but instead an exercice in balancing visual cues and details as viewed from up there to make it 'as real as it gets' within the limits of FS9. LFRD is a mid-sized regional airport with some commercial trafic (Ryanair B732, Aurigny A320, ATR72, Shorts360) and two large maintenance facilities (TAT and SCA) for small liners (CRJ200, ATR72, Fokker 50 & 100, etc). These jets actually do touch and goes and flight testing around the airport. ******** PRICE ********** ------------------------ This scenery is smileware. if (and only if) you find yourself smiling from ear to ear while flying my scenery, you owe me a "thank you" email... ;) --> euro_vauchez@noos.fr Otherwise, its not good enough yet, and you don't owe me anything. ;) ******** COPYRIGHT AND DISCLAIMER *********** --------------------------------------------- You may use this software free of charge for and unlimited period. IN SHORT, USE THESE FILES ENTIRELY AT YOUR OWN RISK. ****** INSTALLATION ----- PLEASE READ ******** ---------------------------------------------- GENRAL NOTES: ------------ If you have installed FRP2004 or any other FRP package, make sure you disable "stmalo.bgl" in it. It's not at all compatible with this scenery. If you have a custom landclass installed (such as Arnaud Clere's fantastic France Landclass), make sure it is placed UNDER any scenery in your scenery declaration panel, STANDARD INSTALL: ---------------- 1. Execute LFRD2004-v1a.exe and follow the instructions. 2. Start FS9 and declare the 2 scenery folders. Start with the landclass (LFRD2004 LandClass) so that when you then declare the scenery (LFRD2004), it is positioned on TOP of the landclass on your Scenery Library list, as follows: LFRD2004 LFRD2004 LandClass ADVANCED INSTALL: ---------------- For those of you that have custom configurations, you can choose a custom folder within the installer and then manually copy the folders and files grouped as you like it. Just make sure you copy agbretagne.bmp and agbretagne_LM.bmp to either your root "Texture" folder or the LFRD2004 "Texture" folder. Both work. Its put in the main Texture folder by default to ensure forward compatibility with additional scenery. ****** RECOMMENDED SETTINGS ******** ------------------------------------ I spent a lot of time optimizing this scenery for framerates. Of course, you can run this scenery without touching any of your settings, but do yourself a favor and at least once try the following: Scenery complexity: extremely dense Autogen density: extremely dense Ground shadows: on You should not have a framerate drop, or a very small one on any machine but the oldest ones. The autogen ground shadows do not cost any framerate. They are calculated on the fly once when you enter the scenery (during your pre-flight and taxi... ;)) So they don't appear immediately... be patient, it's worth it. Advanced users only: ------------------- Framerate performance is improved enormously by disabling the fs9 new autogen (you wont even notice its gone, but you'll notice the 5-15 fps you'll gain...) To do that, disable the file default.xml in your root folder ("fs9installpoint"\Autogen\default.xml). You can rename it default.xmlout for example. For the big machine powerusers out there, you can go to 21 for the 'TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL' in your fs9.cfg, it makes the coast and islands more precise. ****** RECOMMENDED ADDITIONS ******* ------------------------------------ Water reflection map. I know there are many many water reflection packages out there. If you don't have any, I strongly recommend Peter Wilding's version 15 (!) reflexion textures and heightbump. These maps remove the 'carribean' look that the stock files give to the whole world and add a lot to FS9. Don't forget to backup the original files. You can find this file on AVSIM (PWOVER15.ZIP) Terrain mesh of Brittany: I have included a quick STRM mesh of the local area for convenience, but you can find Thierry Pignot's excellent Brittany mesh "bretagne2002.zip" on http://www.pacaflight.com/ (Click on Download, then "bretagne 2002" then "telecharger" at the bottom of the page). Other good meshes are Nanucq's (hard to find now) and Lago (payware). Trafic Files and aircraft: Go to Bruno Blin's trafic page for LFRD, it's all there! http://fs2004bb.site.voila.fr/ Thanks again Bruno for this excellent work. Aircraft Repaints Search 'Blin' on the AVSIM library. ****** COMPATIBILITY ****** --------------------------- I have NOT tested this scenery with FS2002. Apparently it sort of works, with a few textures not showing on buildings, but really, it was made for FS2004. ****** KNOWN ISSUES ********* ---------------------------- A few trees at the airport become too bright at dawn and dusk, and will stay lit at night when not in summer. ****** MANY THANKS TO: Richard Ludowise, Christian Stock and Jim Keir I dedicate this scenery to you. Without your precious knowledge, none of this would have been possible. Bruno Blin (http://fs2004bb.site.voila.fr/) for his kind help with photos of the area and his trafic files. Benoit of marembair.free.fr for his aerial photos of the area. Laurent and Pascal of France VFR for letting me use their brittany texture image. Eric, from Cap Fréhel. Vauchez euro_vauchez@noos.fr
