It hasn't even been 6 months since it was released, what a fail.  Stupid people.

I did not really expect this to happen today but i had the idea in the back of my mind. From the beginning on i had doubts about Flight. It started with love, A "free game" simply to be downloaded. I thought that i could hope for more and better but nothing happened. It all started with their release of the warbirds which have no cockpits and seem unreasonable for the point behind this title. It's as if the devs didn't know what to do or how to listen to the community. Then comments on their official webpage have been disabled for each and every post. People started leaving, losing interest.

Development seemed to be uncertain, boring and slow. Alaska was rushed and there were a lot of mixed feelings. Activity on this game dropped. To put it simply, this game HAS potential if it's placed in the right hands in an acceptable time frame. The least they could do is create an SDK so the real flight simmers could enhance and further enjoy the title and turn it into something amazing.

Too bad. Flight had potential for so much more, but the terrible funding and marketing killed it. I'm sure the developers wanted to do better, but were banging their heads with the directions they were given.

And that's the end of Microsoft Flight Simulator. I really doubt Microsoft will hire Aces again. Microsoft is done with flight simming.

And after that we have only X-Plane, and then it also disappears.  But anyways by then we all go into our mid/late twenties and have busy lives and flightsim is a thing of the past :(

X-Plane is really only getting started IMO.

As for being too busy for FS, I've not simmed properly for about 2-3years. I get bored of it too easily and don't want to pay for addons cause I know I'll get bored and not get a decent use to justify the cost - I need more space for a yoke etc I think for me to be properly into it. same with the DCS titles :(

X-Plane 10. I'm betting by the time X-Plane 11 comes around we can really see X-Plane being the major force in the flight simming community. My heart will always be with FS2004 and the fs2004.com community we had on these forums. FSX was alright, and MS Flight I didn't even bother touching... I have X-Plane 9, but it is boring because it is so FLAT everywhere. FS2004 has better eye candy than X-Plane 9. As for X-Plane 10 I don't have a powerful enough computer yet... I'm excited when I have time and money to get a fast rig that will run X-Plane 10.

I say good riddance to MS Flight. They need a dedicated team who will put in the time and effort that FS2004 saw and maybe what FSX saw for it to be worth something good in the future.

When you dumb-down a simulation franchise, you can kiss your userbase goodbye. Microsoft was trying to cater to people who have no interest in flying airplanes on the computer.

To be fair, I think they were trying to attract people who would not normally have any interest in flying.
Unfortunately, they forgot about the people who do have an interest in flying.

No it wasn't.

It was bad project planning along the way that decided that Hawaii was the only choice and that planes and locations should cost extra money.

The idea of fixing FSX wasn't bad at all. It was the way they went about doing it that screwed the game for good.

Actually Flight was ruined by Joshua Howard.

http://forum.avsim.n...ht-post-mortem/

Here's a post-mortem of an old artist from the Flight team. There he explains how Joshua Howard took Flight to the ground, and how there will be no FS11.

Dreadful idea from day one.

Microsoft seem to be obsessed with sabotaging successful, profitable IP's in favour of trying to take on high-risk projects which are just doomed to fail from the start (I'm also potentially looking at you, Windows 8).

The moral of the story?  Know your market, know your customer and deliver what they want.  I code for a games studio that's at number #1 in the charts right now because it manages to do exactly this, year after year.  Microsoft should know better, however little pocket change Flight cost.

So Flight will never become more than some Hawaii islands with a few cockpit-less planes. :hrmm: So much for an FSX sequel.
