Hello all

I hate sounding like a whiner and making you all fall asleep in front of your screens Posted Image but...

My Dreamwings Dash 8 Q400 is acting strange again even after all the fixes I applied (refer this thread: http://www.fs2004.co...topic=47150&hl= )

I dearly want to use this plane but for months its been misbehaving and Im going to give it one last chance :D

And so I come here with a request:

If any of you have a Dreamwings Dash8 Q400 that flies perfectly - could you please email me your Dash8Q400.air & aircraft.cfg files? :D

My email is: nevin@scandinavica.com

Id be super-grateful!

Thank you  :D

The Dreamwings Dash-8 Q400, generally has, bad dynamics :D.

It is possible to replace them with another aircraft's, I'd recommend Fanda's Dash 8 Q-300, which has excellent dynamics (I'm not sure of the compatibility, but its worth a try). It also makes an excellent panel :D.

If your interested, reply.

ALSO, Thankfully the wait on the Upcoming baby Dash series, is the FDE, which is promising, however I'll probably try and merge with Fanda's too.

Thanks dolbinau   :D

Ok, you can try two things:

http://www.fs2004.co...loads/?dlid=112

Download this file and install it (with the update), afterwhich, in the main Dash 8 Q-300 folder, copy the air folder, to the Dreamwings Q400 folder. (DHC8Q3.air)

Open the Fanda aircraft.cfg

[fltsim.0]
title=Dash8-Q300 V1.004b. Tyrolean Air livery.
sim=DHC8Q3   <COPY THIS
model=
panel=
sound=
texture=
checklists=
reference=
atc_id_enable=1
atc_id=D-BLEJ
atc_id_color=0xffffffff
ui_manufacturer=De Havilland
ui_type=Dash8-300  v1.004b
ui_variation=Dash8 - 300. Tyrolean Air livery.
description=Dash8 - 300. Tyrolean Air livery. copyright by Oleksiy Frolov 2002.  Version 1.004b
atc_heavy=0
atc_airline=
atc_flight_number=

Copy the above line and put it overwrite, the Dreamwings Dash 8 Q400 Simline (in every paint)

don't forget to back up.

As Fanda's systems are very complicated, it might not work without the panel.

Or, if you want the panel with the Q400 (if you like detailed systems)

http://dreamwingsdes...p?showtopic=349

follow this, The FDE isn't completely Fanda's, however Aparently its a 'good mix'.

Overall:

* If you like to use default, basic panel systems, try replacing it with the Fanda FDE.

* If you want to learn to 'fly' the Dash 8, with nearly ALL systems, (freeware) [Q300, but quite close to the 400 I'd say, even though the 400 has fully glass displays], Try the tutorial.

Thanx for replying! Well...heres how it went:

I followed your instructions and it solved 99% of the problems I was having. Unfrotunately for me that remaining 1% was that the plane pivoted onto its nosewheel and would not take off:
Posted Image

I re-checked everything and tried again but the plane behaved the same way and I could not takeoff :D

All was not lost however and so I decided to try your idea again - but this time using  another plane instead of the Fanda Dash 8.

I chose the Dreamwings Fokker 50. I inserted the fokker.air into the Q400 airplane and then replaced the Q400 .cfg with the Fokker 50 cfg (except for contact points & lights).

Result  :D

The Q400 flies perfectly now...and this time I made sure of it by doing a two-hour test flight with flaps down, flaps up, gear down , gear up, climbing turns, descending turns, ILS approaches, go arounds, straight & level...you name it I did it! :D

Its flies really really nicely now! Not a 100% Q400 I know but....the thing takes off and flies right at least!

But...thank you for your help and advice - its sure worked :P !!!!

###### :D, Thats odd, One day when I can download it, I'll give it ago and PM you the results.

did you try the second method, merging the Fanda Panel?

Also, regarding the nosewheel, When does this happen? Is it as soon as you load FS?

Check this topic and try tweaking your original Aircraft.cfg (Read the whole topic).

It may work.

lol.

Yes - unfortunately that caused CTDs :D  The guages for the Fanda panel were causing it. I don't think that plane likes me very much. I wish it would work, that is such a nice panel!

The plane behaved normally when I taxied to the runway etc. Then I applied power; the takeoff roll is normal...until I reached about 70Kts. Upon reaching that speed the tail lifts up and the nosewheel dug in and the plane just kinda rolled along on its nosewheel - but gaining speed all the time. It refused to lift off. I tried  different fuel-weights but it didn't work.  :D

Im checking out that other link! Thanks again!

Yea I made sure of that! Tried several different combos!

Do you have FSUIPC?

Another post, confirmed his CTD's occured because he didn't have FSUIPC.

Also, make sure you install the update.

did you try trim settings? Flaps?

The problem with merging Fanda's Dash8-Q300 airfile is that the Q400 has different engines and significantly different flight characteristics.  The Q100/200/300 can only fly up to about 25,000 feet whereas the Q400 can go higher.  Also the Q400 can cruise at around 300-350kts whereas the others are at around 270-300.

So while merging the Q300 dynamics into the Q400 model will give you a plane that flies nice, it will not be very realistic.  Also the Q400 has a glass cockpit.. there are some decent freeware offerings but no real good systems simulation panel for it.

Yeah, of coarse, however, Fanda's, despite not having fully glass gauges, would still be more realistic than any freeware varient.

Also, regarding FDE, again, it would be more realistic than Dreamwings, which is very underpowered as it is :D.
