Is it possible to install the G1000 GPS in an FSX aircraft that doesn't have it? I know that only a few default aircraft in FSX Deluxe have the G1000 already installed.

I would like to be able to install the G1000 into add-on aircraft. I tried this recently by replacing the original panel with a copy of the G1000 from a plane that already had it installed.  It installed ok and everything worked EXCEPT the altitude and airspeed ribbons, which do not budge off of zero!

What can I do to make altitude and airspeed work?

Thanks!

Carl

I believe getting the G1000 system to work 100% as intended...will require installing both "components" in your aircraft (both the PFD AND the MFD). The MFD seems to rely on the PFD for certain stuff. So...if you just install the MFD, some goodies as you mentioned will not work.

Crashmaster:

I've never tried installing the separate components of a panel into an aircraft. What I've done numerous times is just delete the old panel (or put it away in a new folder in case I want it back) and then copy the new panel from another aircraft that has the one I want (or copy an add-on panel that I have downloaded from the Internet) and paste it into the Airplanes directory into the airplane whose panel I am "upgrading."

This works very well and I have done this many times when I didn't like a given panel in a given airplane. There are occasions when this doesn't work but rarely. Sometimes, aircraft and capabilities and the new panel do not match.

But with the G1000 there seems to be something else missing that will allow it to work properly when it is copied into another airplane. Perhaps something has to be changed in the air.cfg code or even in the panel code itself to allow G1000 to work in the new airplane.

In FSX, the G1000 is only present in the Deluxe version, and I haven't been able to copy a G1000 panel into an airplane in the FSX Standard version, so obviously Microsoft has fixed the code so you can't do this (and you have to buy the Deluxe version to get the G1000).

I am not trying to escape paying Microsoft their due (we have three copies of FSX in our family!); I just like to experiment with the aircraft components and see what is possible in modifying them.

That's why I am interested in finding out if anyone else has been able to successfully change an ordinary panel in any of the aircraft (FSX default or add-on) into a G1000 panel???

Thanks for your feedback.

Actually you can use the g1000 in any fsx aircraft. I have used it in everything from the ford trimotor to my latest two aircraft the 787 and flex A380. What is required is a bit of adjustment to the aircraft.cfg file.  As we have grown so use to downloading and then just copy and paste a new panel for certain airplanes we instantly think if something does not work, just reinstall the old panel. I have never been one to accept anything as oh well guess it won't work. So let me drop a few hints to make the fsx stock garmin PFD (I actually don't care for the mfd) work in any aircraft.
To start off think of the g1000 as a brand new gauge you are installing into a homebuilt aircraft. It wil require certain things to be added to the airplane itself to work. Sensors for the airspeed, attitude, altitude, etc etc etc. Situational awareness from a computer only comes from giving it the correct set of variables, It only knows what we tell it.
Also, you cannot run an electrical device from air without first converting the air to electricity. Thats very simple to understand. You cannot run a vacuum device from electricity. So now we understand that, when you look at the aircraft.cfg file you will notice on about 99.9% of the aircraft as they are do not support the requirements to feed the g1000 the correct electricity/vacuum/slaved-unslaved settings. So for every aircraft you install it in the aircraft systems need tweeked. The ones below are my adjustments to the flex A380-800 just to be used as an example. And there are a few more but to save space i am just noting these.

[direction_indicators]
//1 Type: 0=None, 1=Vacuum Gyro, 2=Electric Gyro, 3=Electro-Mag Slaved Compass, 4=Slaved to another
//2 Indicator number of slaving indicator if Type = 4
direction_indicator.0=3,0

[attitude_indicators]
//Type: 0=None, 1=Vacuum Gyro, 2=Electric Gyro
attitude_indicator.0 = 1
attitude_indicator.1 = 2

[turn_indicators]
//Type: 0=None, 1=Electric Gyro, 2= Vacuum Gyro
turn_indicator.0=1,1

[altimeters]
altimeter.0=1
altimeter.1=1

[airspeed_indicators]
airspeed_indicator.0=1
airspeed_indicator.1=1

Once you go through and provide the correct requirements to feed the g1000 it will function perfectly. I just love it and it has so many features over a standard PFD that once to have learned to use all it's functions you will as i have come to really appreciate a little required effort to make it work. here is the g1000 pfd in my flex A380. Mass glass as i have nicknamed it.
