FSWidgets has released two iOS apps that turn your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad into a moving map for your desktop flight simulator.

iGMap (for iPhone/iPod touch) and iGMapHD (for iPad) work with the three most popular desktop simulators on the market today, supporting FSX, FS2004 or X-Plane 9.

The apps basically give you a hand-held moving map to aid navigation, especially on VFR flights.

The wireless connection to the flight simulator is made via the free FSWidgets Network Pack which can be downloaded from the website.

Flight plan display in native FSX, FS2004 or X-Plane formats are supported.

Feature list:

- Connects to FSX, FS2004 & X-Plane 9 (Windows, Mac OSX 10.5+ or Linux).
- Flight Plan Display - supports native FSX, FS2004 & X-Plane flight plan files.
- FSWidgets Network Pack provided free.
- Powered by CloudMade map rendering API (OpenStreetMap data).
- World-wide custom map data with 6 styles.
- US SEC (Sectional Chart) data, covers entire contiguous US.
- US WAC (World Aeronautical Chart) data, covers entire contiguous US.
- US TAC (Terminal Area Charts) data.
- Alaska WAC data.
- Cuba and Puerto Rico WAC data.

For more details and screenshots please see the respective iGMap or iGMapHD info pages.

Great app! It would be good though if you could make it track your flights on say, VATSIM or IVAO. That, would be epic
