I've been experimenting with FSX's multiplayer today, and have come to the conclusion that I dislike Gamespy.
I was researching assorted problems related to multiplayer today, and I stumbled upon something called Hamachi. I've downloaded the free version, however, I'm not exactly sure what to do with it...
If I wanted to set up a server in FSX where people from FSW could join using Hamachi, what would I do? Create a network in Hamachi, and then give people who are also using Hamachi, and who want to fly, the name and password of my Hamachi network? Then, if I hosted a server in FSX (via LAN, not Gamespy), would they see my LAN server in their FSX, and they would simply click on it and select connect? Or is that completely wrong?
I know that this should probably go in multiplayer discussion, but the multiplayer subforum is mostly dead.
Thanks for any help!

It's been a while since I have used Himachi. I either just do a direct connect LAN (though my own LAN network - others outside the WAN can see the session if you open the ports and share your WAN address. I only do this with trusted friends however).
Himachi also works great and is a very stable way to set up a multiplayer session. When you set up Himachi and log on, Himachi will give you an IP address that others can join. If I remember correctly, you too join this IP address from the FSX multiplayer window.
Like I said, it's been a while but when I tried it, it worked fine.
Bman.
Of course, I skip all of this hubbub and fly Vatsim

Yeah, just have them connect to your network, and then they can connect via the IP shown on Hamachi (the lobby will not show your game, however). If it doesn't work, try temporarily disabling your firewall.
Try a software called 'Tunngle' as well, basically the same thing as Hamachi, but less complicated (As it shows the game in the lobby, and doesn't require the usage of an IP).

So, no one needs to host a session from inside of FSX?

Yeah, I'm going to be flying on VATSIM rather than Gamespy or LAN, but I was thinking about starting up FSW's multiplayer events again. FsHost is a pain in the rear for FSX.
And Slik, I'll check out Tunngle, thanks.

Be easier to just host the events on VATSIM

Eh... The FSW events allow members of the community, whether they fly Posky or PMDG, to come fly and chat together. People can join in after the flight has started, or leave before it's over. VATSIM wouldn't allow for that kind of atmosphere.

Well, I just managed to get FsHostClient to run on my laptop and connect to FSX via SimConnect, something I was unable to do with Squawkbox 4. Perhaps there is a future for our FSW Multiplayer Events...

Hey Rudolph, if your going to do this I would love to play in your game, just private message me the hamachi ip and stuff and the name of your server and we can fly.

Unfortunately, I was never able to get it working, however, I did come up with a better solution for FsHost so I think I'm going to go with that. We might have a multiplayer event, so keep your eyes on the multiplayer section for the next few months.
