Long read but thanks for explaining SP2 in depth. I'm happy that DX9 will get more updates because I haven't really switched over to Vista yet and I think I'll be flying FSX on WinXP a little longer with SP2 but the HDR does sound good. I guess a dual boot will let me enjoy both DX9 and 10.

Just one quick question, what do you mean by "3G"? Taken from your post "3G enabling FSX and Autogen memory use optimization". Will this increase FPS in regards to autogen?

3G enabling has 2 parts:1)marking your OS boot, 2)having 3G aware applications.

Users have to mark their OS ( threads about this abound and can be found with a search )

Acceleration and SP2 are 3G aware now.

This expands the address space available and, hopefully, reduces out of memory errors.

Apologies if you covered it in your post but is SP2 the final update for FSX?

That is the plan from the engine side, yes. We need to move on to Trains2 and FS11. Steam anyone?

Oh, Trains2 has already taken the integration from SP2 so they will have DX10 built-in.

that doesnt even show off the whitecaps. turn the wind velocity up, and the waves and whitecaps build up.

I guess an upgrade is in my future, in the meantime I look forward to enjoying the DX9 enhancements, specifically the blurry fix.

Phil, I'm not disappointed with DX10, the water and HDR lighting look awesome, can't wait to see the other features in action.

Hi Phil,

From your WebLog:

"And yes most add-ons should continue to work in the DX9 code path in Acceleration/SP2, as long as they don't depend on the old BGL compatibility path."

Can I take it from that statement that add-ons already released could potentially have problems functioning correctly in the DX10 code path, or am I misinterpreting or misunderstanding?  For example, would X Graphics or Flight Environment X function without issues when running with DX10?  If not, I take it they would have to be patched by the third-party developers.

To be honest, the answer will not be particularly relevant to me, as I don't own a DX10 card yet, but I know others have asked the question with regards to DX10 and the above mentioned add-ons.

Thanks

Phil,

Is there any fix for the 1 second white out screens that appear when you go to use the autopilot buttons or cockpit controls in 2D mode?  Thank you for posting on this board.
