Cross The Pond (CTP) is a bi-annual event which takes place on the VATSIM Virtual Air Traffic Network. It involves a large number of aircraft flying between the UK and North America.

This year the Westbound event is taking place on Saturday 22nd March 2008. There are departures planned from three airports in the UK, with arrivals into three US airports and one Canadian airport:

Departure Airfields

   1. London Heathrow - (EGLL/LHR)

   2. Manchester International - (EGCC/MAN)

   3. Glasgow International - (EGPF/GLA)

Arrivals

   1. Montreal Dorval International - (CYUL/YUL)

   2. Newark Liberty International - (KEWR/EWR)

   3. Washington Dulles International - (KIAD/IAD)

   4. Boston Logan International - (KBOS/BOS)

You can expect full ATC coverage for the duration of your flight; which can be booked via the Pilot's section of this website [Login Here].

It is important that you read the "Pilot's Briefing" before proceeding to book your flight as this explains the procedures that are being implemented for this event.

Why do you have to book a flight? Will they kick you off if you go flying without a reservation?

^^No. But without one you will experience long delays, and not benefit from getting a real world flightplan for your flight e-mailed to you 24hours before ect.

I am interested in this, Just a question, what will ATC coverage be like when you are in the middle of the ocean since I may have to leave the computer for some time during the flight

full ATC for the entire length. on average over the ocean, you have to contact them once every 45 mins or so for a position report. I just turn my speakers up way loud so in case they SELCAL me I'll hear it and come back to respond

What's the shortest flight out of the lot? Don't have that much time but would love to fly the event.

You'll need 7 or 8 hours minimum I'd say. Unless you get a stonking tailwind which is rare going west.

EGPF-CYUL is only about 2500nm, save you an hour or so

Do you think that it would be possible for someone who flies 90% vfr with only basic navigational knowledge to fly this event succesfully? (Obviously I can also fly larger aircraft, suitable for crossing the ocean)

I would imagine so   Just make sure you know and will be able to do position reports, holdings etc, and you should be fine :]

if you know your aircraft well, and won't break down under pressure, then you'll do alright

you have to be on high alert, in july when I was flying into LHR for CTP 2007, traffic was unbelievable

I put a report up for it in the screenshots forum if you want to go find it
