Hello all,

Just thought i would let you know that a British Airways 777-200 has landed short of runway 27L at London Heathrow this morning. (1300 British Time) there has been 3 minor injuiries however that is all what we have been told for the time being. The pilot managed to get the aircraft over the airport perimeter fences but only just as he touched the aircraft down on the grass quite a way, away from the actual runway itself. News reports are obviously still on television on BBC1. (British Channel) Noone knows what the cause of this acciedent is however the British Airways aircraft its in aa bit of a state, undercarriage has collapsed, jet engines are broken and battered into a terrible state. However if you want more news switch onto BBC news or go to there website as im sure it will be on there also.

Kind Regards,

Just saw this on the bbc news website. I wonder if anyone was at Heathrow today who was spotting will maybe give an insight into what happened.

Also been on the BAV Forums, apparantly the aircraft was G-YMMM.

Unsuccessful go around attempt from windshear is what I've read.
Im sure we'll find out more once the blackbox has been retrieved from said aircraft.

Oops should have checked before posting this on off-topic

Anyways its way too early to say what happened but all eyewitnesses are saying these two things:

1. Very "heavy banking" on approach
2. Unusually loud engine noise

Whatever the cause - well done to the flight & cabin crew for doing their stuff so well. Nice one people.

This could be the first 777 to be written off as a result of an accident. According to a.net the frame involved was G-YMMM which only entered service in mid 2001. Quite a shame as these are really young aircraft. Have been on the slightly older G-YMMH and they're well looked after and in good shape.

To date, no Boeing 777 has been involved in a crash due to mechanical failure. There has only been one 777 removed from service thus far and it was an ex BA, VARIG 777-200 (non ER).

From the footage of CNN it looks like it touched down 300 to 400 meters before the runway, that is pretty extreme.
