"A U.S. Airways Jet has crashed into the Hudson River in New York" - from the Reuters News Agency

Crashed on departure to North Carolina, is an A320 apparantly and had a few passengers on board. Seems the media jumped on the bandwagon! That can't be an E170 at all!!

FLIGHT DETAILS
-------
AWE1549
"CACTUS 1549"

LA GUARDIA (KLGA) => CHARLOTTE/DOUGLAS INT (KCLT)

Route: BIGGY J75 GVE LYH SUDSY3
Planned flight time: 1 hour 44 minutes
Last report: 300ft at 153kts

--------

Sources of Sky News say it was a bird strick, or a flock of geese.

Will post more when I know more.

AP said:

NEW YORK (AP) — A US Airways plane has crashed into the Hudson River, sending passengers fleeing for safety in the frigid waters.

New York City firefighters are responding to the crash. It was not immediately clear if there were injuries.

Witness Barbara Sambriski, a researcher at The Associated Press, said, "I just thought, 'Why is it so low?' And, splash, it hit the water."

146 passengers and 5 crew on the roster.

Edit: It's 146 not 143, my bad.

I've flown US Airways 1549 many times before. Connecting to Raleigh from Charlotte. Looking at the picture of it floating in the water. Pilot did a great job to safely put it in the water.

I witnessed this crash.... indirectly.  It happened just outside my window.  I'm on the 43rd floor of an office building in midtown manhattan.  We were having a chat and one guy said "that is too big to be a puddle jumper"  we dismissed the comment as him just not knowing planes and i told him about a Cessna caravan that flies around here and left it at that... till we saw the ferries racing to the scene and the TV lit up with news of the crash.  Looks like birdstrike.  I say the pilot did the right thing.  it is BRUTAL cold in NY today -8 C.  Prob had NAI on and the flight was making a connection in charlotte to go to seattle.  with 151 souls on board he may have been pretty high TOW.  with one engine and whatever other damage the geese may have caused he is lucky to have made it across manhattan to get to the hudson!!!

According to Sky News, a passenger says he thinks all passengers survived. Fingers crossed that's true, would be pretty unbelievable if it was.

I'm watching news about that jet; the boats are doing a good job of keeping this plane afloat..  too bad internet news doesn't have any subtitles- my guess is that they're towing that plane to a drydock or something..
I wonder if that plane was 100% intact or something...

Thats why its so expensive and time consuming to obtain a commercial license.

Great job to the crew.

Watching CNN right now, the plane IS floating about half above water, and being towed through the water.

Sources are saying the "pilot has reported a double bird strike" He was headed for teterboro in NJ but couldn't make it. It is still unclear whether double bird strike is confirmed, and/or means 2 engines were gone, or both birds took one engine.

It depends on several things, the height of waves in the river, etc, if the tide was smooth, and the pilot probably tried to float it into the water just as if he were trying to set it on a runway without landing gear.

What a fantastic job by the flight crew. Ditching a crate like that is never easy and now Im hearing that everyone survived, I hope we hear more news that confirms this. Also lets not forget the FAs who no doubt went about their business and the pax who kept their heads and got outta there.

Big up the ferry-boat massive!
