Fellow fliers : We have been having a lot of fun (at least me) and I have seen a lot of places that I wouldn't otherwise ventured out to.  The places we have trekked across so far:

Alaska, Norway, Finland, Sweden, Denmark and most recently China

1) Alaska
2) Norway, Finland, Sweden & Denmark
3) China
4) Canada
5) South America
6) Caribbean (on going - we are only doing 5 hops here)

I invite all of you folks that are posting flight to venture on to Vatsim to carry out hops.  It's a great opportunity that would support the ATC guys who are sitting around waiting for us.  As I traveled across an island in the Caribbean there were both approach control and tower control... but only me as a pilot.  They should have had about 15 people ... or 20... in short, I think the Vatsim community needs your support and it's a great addition to your simulation experience.

If you need any help getting established on Vatsim, I would be glad to help you out.

In the mean time, put your wings on and head to the Caribbean.  We won't be there for long!

Benjamin.

Ok!  We now have some type of route going here.  Thanks to you guys who are participating.  The Caribbean has been a great place to visit.  Newcomer to our trips around the globe, Roberto, have generated a nice list of short hops for us to strings along.  I kind of like to have this list to guy by - it will keep me motivated to get them flown.

What do you guys thing about setting a route for our hops around a continent?  You can fly any particular route for a given leg, that's up to you to figure out.  Roberto has also included chart links for those flying on Vatsim.  Vatcar has all of the charts with exception of a one or two.

Here is the list - we will pick up with Hop 5 (Franthree... you get a special #4 in there)

HOP 1: TFFB – TFFA (42nm)

TFFB Charts: http://vatcar.org/in...Guadeloupe/TFFB
TFFA Charts: http://vatcar.org/in...Guadeloupe/TFFA

HOP 2: TFFB – TNCM (156nm)

HOP 3: TNCM – TISX (99nm)

TISX Charts: http://vatcar.org/in...in_Islands/TISX

HOP 5: TISX – TIST (39nm)

TIST Charts: http://vatcar.org/in...in_Islands/TIST

HOP 6: TIST – TJPS (93nm)

TJPS Charts: http://vatcar.org/in...uerto_Rico/TJPS

HOP 7: TJPS - MDPC (108nm)
MDCP Charts: http://aip.idac.gov...._in_AD2_24.html

HOP 8: MDPC – MDBH (158nm)

MDBH Charts: http://aip.idac.gov...._in_AD2_24.html

HOP 9: MDBH – MTPP (70nm)

MTPP Charts: http://vatcar.org/in...Path=Haiti/MTPP

HOP 10 : MTPP - MUBA (165nm)
MUBA Charts: http://vatcar.org/in...lPath=Cuba/MUBA

HOP 11: MUBA - MUMZ (146nm)
MUMZ Charts: http://vatcar.org/in...lPath=Cuba/MUMZ

HOP 12:  MUMZ – MUCC (148nm)

MUCC Charts: http://vatcar.org/in...lPath=Cuba/MUCC

HOP 13: MUCC – MUVR (176nm)

MUVR Charts: http://vatcar.org/in...lPath=Cuba/MUVR

We also need a logo for the flights... anyone have a good design in mind?

I do not understand the links Bman? They are just for one airport and not a IFR or VFR flight plan? If you could elaborate more what this is? :hrmm:

Franthree - these are simply links from the departure airport and arrival airport.  These links include approach plates and airport diagrams.  Just one step in the planning process and certainly documents you must have on had when flying in the real world and on vatsim.  If ATC tells you to expect arrival X or procedure X, it helps to have these on hand.

I always am prepared and have said documents in the cockpit.  Even if ATC is not online at the time, to state intentions is equally important to other pilots that may be in the vicinity.   Most of these airports I am completely unfamiliar with so I need to know runways, lengths, taxiways etc.

How you get from point A to B is entirely up to you.  If you are going VFR...VFR it is, no charts needed other than knowing when you are going to penetrate an airspace and need to know when and where to make a request to ATC to bust the airspace.  If you are going IFR and have filed a plan that is approved, your clearance is already given through said airspaces if included in that flight plan.

Let me know if you have any additional questions.

Cheers-

Benjamin.

I wish somebody could do a tutorial on how to fly on vatsim. From the planning to the flight all the way to landing at the destination airport. I'd like to fly online but there's a part of me thats afraid I'll mess up or not being able to understand instructions from ATC.

Skyentertainment or... Sky for short...

Any time you are ready I can show you the ropes.  Any time spent getting some up in the air on Vatsim is time well spent.
Have you read the PRC over at Vatsim.  Start there...

If you have IM (I use yahoo) we can do this more effectively.

Cheers-

Bman.

Haha, I love the way when I did the first S. America flight I snuck in "Around a Continent" instead of country. And then everyone followed suit :hrmm:

Technically, the Caribbean flights should be "Around a region" haha!

Yeah, same here, might be a couple days though. Thought I had fixed fsx, and apparently still isn't working. And it was the final straw, I'm uninstalling vista and going back to ol reliable XP. HD wipe funtimes :hrmm:
