Does anyone know if Jet2 are planning to replace their fleet or not? As of March 2010, their average fleet age is 22 years! Ryanair's is only 3. That's less than 7 times as much. I've heard rumours of them ordering Boeing 767-300s. Most airlines are replacing their fleet now as everyone'll know by now. OK for a major airline with 400+ planes at an average of 22 years, but Jet2 only have about 30 aircraft. Although I've flown on Jet2's 737-300s before, and am again in the summer, and have been in love with 737 classics for years, they're old. I am not concerned or anything, but maybe they should pahse out most 733s and introduce some 737-700s or -800s. As for the 757s and 767s, meh. They're part of my favs too but could be replaced by 787s or something?

I completely agree with you, I have nothing against the older aircraft but I have always wondered why they weren't following their rivals and buying or leasing some newer aircraft.

I wouldn't expect to see them get rid of the older aircraft too soon, they have just started refurbishing the cabins on the 757s, and they have plans to do the same with the 737 eventually.

I may be wrong but I think Jet2 is reluctant to buy new planes not only because of bad economy but also because of too much money spending on retraining pilots to use different planes.

I think Jet2 will be looking to save money by buying ten year old 737-300s or 10 year old 757s.

That may be the reason why Cayman Airways last year or 2 years ago bought used 733 from BMI Baby airline to save money and avoid pilot retraining costs.

I can be wrong but that is my theory.

You want a low cost carrier to just buy 787's like that? :/

Jet2 own every aircraft they have outright (bar the newest 757) and this is what enables them to run the business model they do (i.e aircraft barely fly in the winter). A total fleet renewal would be costly and would probably require the majority of new aircraft to be leased(thus ruining their business model).

In regards to the two 767 aircraft, they were canceled whilst in maintenance in Abu-Dhabi as they were found to be not suitable.

Do they lease some of their aircraft in winter to other airlines, or do they try and do all the big maintenance work in this winter period to have a greater chance of having all their aircraft in service during the busier months?

Jet2, will be purchasing a 767, it was expected to roll out in summer 2010, It was put back due to the aircraft not meeting some requirement (or something like that).  As for replacing the new aircraft.  Not gonna happen, considering they just bought another B733 http://jetphotos.net...6795322&nseq=44

What on earth are they going to do with a widebody? Could they really fill an economy 767 on their routes?

The 2 767 aircraft that were in Abu-Dhabi have been fully cancelled and nothing has come from management or the pilots about any new ones being found. Which will probably annoy several of the new guys who joined with 767 experience as they were told these were soon to come.

Yes that was the idea for the summer 2010 then over the winter slowly preparing long haul routes for Summer 2011.
