To be fair, I think that profile is managed by fans, not Microsoft.
So where did they get the picture, genius?

To be fair, I always thought it was set up by fans until this screenshot appeared.

Hey, you know what, Jetset, I would have thought the same as you. The issue is, I know of no single game or simulator if you'll have it that bears a striking resemblance to FS9/FSX/Flights' environment. Unless some pillock went through all the effort to imitate the new sim, then I'm going to suspect foul play. :hrmm:

Ship Simulator looks like a pretty good match for and FSX environment but I'm not sure it has the shadows.

EDIT - Looks like these shipsim people know how to go about realizing that 'magic screenshot' effect  :hrmm:

Sorry, it seems you're correct. I didn't look at the screenshot more carefully. It fits in with Microsoft's odd obsession with Hawaii this time around, too.

I think I've found the answer as to whether the Facebook group is official or not.
Their profile pic is an edit of one of the latest official screenshot releases, BUT it's not just a simple crop of it.

I had a play with PS and tried to recreate it.
Here's the profile pic laid over the official screenshot, which I rotated and re-sized to fit.

This shows that the only way to create that profile pic is to have access to a bigger 'uncropped' version of the official screenshot.
And there's only one group of people that would have access to that.  :hrmm:

I am starting to believe that the "screenshot" is actually just a Ship Simulator Extreme screenshot with the "Flight" watermark pasted on.

You said only one group of people have that original image.  But you said you overlaid their profile pic over the original screenshot.  The one you said only one group of people have.
So the question is, how did YOU get your hands on the original uncropped image to do your overlay?
It's obviously available for anyone to download, correct?

No, I used the official shot that was released and the Facebook profile pic.
The pic I've uploaded here shows the two together and that more of the official screenshot would be needed to make the profile pic.
Hope that makes sense.

Oh, I see what you mean.
Ok.
I guess time will tell whether or not it is indeed taken from Flight.
Not saying it isn't, but I'm not saying it is, either.
If it is, and they expect good framerates, they must have completely re-coded the entire sim.  Seems like an awful lot of detail for a static ship.

This right here.

What I'm afraid of is the fact that Microsoft is probably developing and testing Flight on their mega machines, probably with Intel i9 superclocked monster processors and triple-SLI setups and whatnot, where it runs fine, but on the rest of our machines would run like crap.

I have a bad feeling this is what happened with FSX (remember when FSX first came out and it was unheard of to run it at maximum settings?)

Even today, most users aren't running FSX on maximum settings.

At equal clocks, there's only a 10% difference between Gulftown and Sandy Bridge chips of similar core structure.

Most users aren't running a brand new Intel Core i-series CPU, Switchy. :hrmm:
