A link would have been helpful

http://www.microsoft.com/games/flight/

I know its still in alpha or beta stage, but seems like in the 7th pic we're seeing some dreaded blurries...
The lighting in number 5 is brilliant!

The screenshots aren't exactly high-resolution, so everything looks blurry in full screen. I think that's the cause.

There is absolutely nothing new in those screenshots, appart from one thing: scenery objects will have real shadows just like the plane, and they will cast those shadows on other objects (including the plane, hopefully).
The rest is just like FSX with new textures.
At least, it's a confirmation that Flight is not cancelled.

What screenshots are you looking at?  :hrmm: B) :( I know you just glanced, because I saw several new things in these shots.

They also have some weather comparisons in the news section: http://www.microsoft...s/flight/#news7.

Edit: Just realized the topic starter also mentioned them. :hrmm:  Well, have a convenient link. B)

Very unimpressive, just looks like FSX with a different skin.

I wouldn't call them "amazing".
Fog looks a little thick to me in the comparison screenshots.

I think the point they are trying to make is that the fog is no longer so jagged and ugly. It blends well with the terrain, which is a major achievement.

And it looks like it's time for some of my screenshot comparisons. Will get working on those this evening.  :hrmm:

Even if it does look a little like FSX with a new skin (which it doesn't) at least it looks good for being default. Default has always been hideously ugly. Doesn't look like that is the case this time, especially with the clouds.

Woohoo, after the rumors and lack of updates, I seriously began considering the possibility that it was on hold. My rage towards Microsoft was slowly building throughout the day. :hrmm:

Great to see new updates. They aren't "amazing" pictures, but they do look like an improvement. Let's hope performance matches their stated goal in the magazine article. B)

Brandon the point is...we aren't supposed to be looking for things they changed...they should be visible by just looking at the shot.

The only main things I see:

1. The clouds look volumetric, not sure if they are or if they're just flat textures still.
2. Lighting is much improved.
3. Looks like the ground lighting at night actually lights up the bottom of the plane.
4. The water looks horrible.
5. The ground textures look different, but not any better than FSX.

Sweet, same old blurries the further you look into the distance.  FSX + REX still looks better IMHO.  And btw I've never had that bad of an issue with fog layers in FSX as they use in the comparison screens.  Just doesn't do it for me yet...

This is the second time ive seen you use this word. It's like you heard it in geometry class and fell in love with the word :hrmm:

Ugh! Lit ground night textures again. Why no street light ground illumination? I have a feeling Flight is going to be too little too late.

Because they want it to be able to run on our computers. Rendering all those street lights and effects takes processing power.
