This thread perfectly explains how badly Microsoft screwed up with their Live and Gamertag accounts.  I've always been so confused what accounts I have with them.

I likely won't sign up for the Beta as I don't even have a joystick and I couldn't imagine playing without one.

there is no difference between Xbox live and GFWL accounts. You can use them on both console and PC

How does one go about registering one? Do I just sign in with my Live account I used for Live Messenger and sign up?

If you have an xbox gamertag, then it will be used for games for windows. They combined them like ages ago and now most of it's under the Xbox brand. To get yourself one, just log in with your live account and make one for free. Think you can even do that on xbox.com.

Looks like they're only focused on demographics for now. As for checking people's specs, I'm sure they can gather that information when the executable is run

Jetset, could you take a picture of the screens you're getting? I have a feeling it's what I was experiencing until I did some manual work.

Just retrieved my account. Didn't get selected.  

All that process of creating accounts and such for nothing. I'm sure that if they knew I've been flying FS since 2002, they would select me.
