Introduction

The United Kingdom division of IVAO brings you the UK's busiest airport, and the world's busiest international airport, fully staffed on the 14th April 2012, with some of the best controllers in the community.

From 1300z-1900z (1400 BST-2000 BST) , you as a pilot will be able to fly any of the hundreds of real flights available to book – flights which will be flown during those same 6 hours in real life! Whether you like long hauls or short domestic hops, there will be a flight for you.

Over 20 active positions will be opened for the event, with many of them being controlled live from our Virtual Area Control Centre in Milton Keynes in the UK. We expect a few real London TMA controllers to join us to provide the finest ATC available.

For more information, please see the full event page here.

During the event, we will be running a datalink clearance system at Heathrow. Full details can be found in the Pilot briefing guide.

If you like to be number 6 on the ILS, taxi behind 4 other aircraft towards the runway or join a holding pattern with several other aircraft, then this is the event for you. Flying with IVAO does not get more real than this.

Pilots & Flight Bookings

This year we have a new and improved booking system. Unlike the previous system, only 1 pilot will be able to reserve each flight instead of 3. This is because the previous system we used was no longer repairable and often let us down during the pilot confirmation process. So, as a result it is more important than ever that if you book a flight you must let us know as soon as you are aware you will be unable to make your flight reservations. Once contacted we will then be able to remove your reservation and free up the flight for other pilots who are available.

Due to the expected volume of traffic only flights listed on our schedule will be guaranteed a landing slot at Heathrow. The only exception will be VA flights which have made prior arrangements with the UK Events staff. All other flights may be accepted subject to slot availability but could be diverted to Amsterdam, Brussels, Gatwick or Stansted.

Flights can now be booked using our booking system;

If you see any flight inaccuracies, please send an email to events@ivao.aero who will then look into it and make any necessary changes.

Many thanks go to Tebin Ulrich who was kind enough to provide us with the opportunity of using his customised booking system to replace our old and increasingly unreliable system.

Controllers

Due to the large amount of coordination required at such events, Heathrow will be staffed only from a virtual ACC held in Milton Keynes. However, controllers will be needed to control other positions within UK airspace and the London TMA in particular to help relieve the area controllers of the large amount of traffic for Heathrow that we're expecting. There also may be a number of diversions to other TMA airfields if the demand at Heathrow becomes too much.

Anyone wanting to control a position (excluding any position at Heathrow, London TC and London AC) are welcome to book a place in the IVAO Sceduling System - however we suggest everybody flies to make it a fun day for all!

The virtual ACC will this time be held in Milton Keynes and will host all the controllers for Heathrow Airport, London TC and some London AC sectors.

Any rated controller is welcome to apply to come to the vACC to control. Unfortunately, there is limited space available so you should apply as soon as possible if you wish to attend.

Non controlling visitors and anyone who would like to assist us with flow control and coordination with surrounding airspace are also welcome to apply - but will be limited due to space.

If you would like to attend, please email events@ivao.co.uk for details and to confirm your place. This will be run on a strict first come, first serve basis & please do not make any plans to attend until you have confirmed a place with the GB-DIR/ADIR or EC/EAC.
