I was contacted today by the wife of one of our dearest members, Bert (Captain).  I think it's safe to say that anyone who got to know him thoroughly enjoyed the experience.  He was a Contributor to this site in particular, and as a freeware author he was a contributor to the flight simulation community as a whole.  He was an early member of this site back when we were just getting started, and always had something nice to say no matter the situation - his posts were truly a joy to read and his point of view was always on target.  He has my utmost respect.

So it saddens me to report on his current situation.  This is the news straight from Bert's wife:

Mrs. Bert said:

It saddens me to inform you that on the 18th of September Bert had an accident while he was doing his morning run. While jogging he was run over by a car.
Sadly he lost his right leg and suffered from a cerebral hemorrhage because of this accident. Since the accident he is in a coma and the doctors can't say if or when he will recover from this.

I will be in contact with Captain's wife and will keep everyone abreast of his situation as it changes, but in the meantime he badly needs our prayers.  She contacted us in the first place because he had previously told her that if anything ever happened to him, he wanted her to let his online friends know what was going on.  And doesn't that sound just like him - always thinking of everyone else.

So let's lift up our brother in his time of need and get him back in the virtual skies!

Brad

Captain! Why?!? :D He was always there for me when I needed a cheer. On Akroma, he allowed me to join his flights and we had fun.

My prayers are with you Captain!

This is so very awful, Bert is friends to everyone here and the flight sim community at large, and we all care about him. I've been wondering about him lately, so this comes as quite a shock, of course. On a side note, I lost one of my closest lifetime friends two years ago when he was mowed down by a careless driver, so it brings all those feelings back. In this case though Bert is hanging on so maybe we can help him by praying in faith that he can be helped.

I hope everyone reading this thread will take Brad's advice and pray for Bert.

Rick

That is so shocking. :)  :D
Absolutely terrible news, my condolences to Bert, his wife & daughter and all others close to him. I TRULY hope that he gets better and retains a positive outlook on life despite his loss - (But then again, he is a great guy so there should be no problem there).
GET WELL Bert.  :D

That sucks.

A few weeks back, my mom's 2 friends got slammed into by a drunk driver while they were on a motorcycle.

The woman got out okay, but her husband has been in a coma since (about 4.5 weeks).

Good luck captain, you have my thoughts.
