Just a few more shots. I'm doing the car parks now, and have added the airbridge (its great fun to fly under.. :D ). Parts of the roads still need texturing, but its certainly coming on now :D

Freeware :)

I use Paint Shop Pro for the textures. Some are edited from parts of photographs (like the concrete on the side of the elevated platform), and some are drawn by hand (like the car parks).

You have no idea how difficult it is to draw convincing textures when your artistic skills are basically zero.. :D

3D I can do.. 2D I am hopeless at..

The best method I have found out is to draw everything in huge childish scribbles at ridiculous resoutions, and then when I shrink it down to size it all seems to tidy itself up.

Oh, yes I do!!!!  Why do you think my designs take so long?  I have to find folks to make textures, night versions of those textures, etc., etc.  I'd say your artiste endeavors are 1000% better than mine!  :D

('Cor blimey!!!!  Now Hi've started a bloody "Hi'm worser then you are" war!!!!)  :D

I've had an idea that I'm trying to implement at the moment. As I'm not very good at visuialising the lightmaps that may be projected onto various surfaces, I had the idea of adding lights to my Gmax scene, exporting the whole thing to a Quake 3 .md3 file and loading the lot into a renderer, which will do all the lighting for me and at least give me something to copy when I draw the lightmaps.

Keep me posted on this when you start it.  If nothing else, we might out work out a deal where I feed you my textures and you do the lighting in exchange for .... (service/product to be determined)  :D

Or, you could teach me.  (WARNING!!! WARNING!!! WARNING!!!  Old sod seeking tutor!!!!  BEWARE!!!!  BEWARE!!!!  BE VERY WARE!!!!)  :D

I was thinking about my next solo project today. It would have to be something a bit... different (like LPMA). I was thinking of making Princess Juliana.

I reckon about another 2 months till its finished.

The FPS hit isn't as much as you'd think, despite the fact that pretty much the whole airport is a HUGE Gmax object. The fact that its a small airport with only about 7 AI planes at any time helps too.

I'm getting perfectly playable frame rates on a P4 3GHz with a Radeon 9800. Most of the 3D is done now, so that won't change much. The entire thing comes in at about 6500 polys.

Are they all programmed as surfaces so you can drive your Ferrari Enzo around. If so I'd like to hear how you got the hard surfaces thing to work.

No, I'm afraid not, as you can't have sloped drivable surfaces. I'm going to make all the large, flat areas drivable, so you can land on the car parks, and also to make the shadow appear at the right height when you fly over. But unfortunately you won't be able to hold Ferrari races round the roads on Akroma....
