The easiest way to get to the FSX.cfg is to click start/run and type;

%appdata%/microsoft/fsx

Then click ok.

With your system and the tweaks it should run well. I really think you have a hardware issue. But i'm afraid, i can not help in this case.

You should defragment right away after installation.
Its not just my system. Its FSX+My System. Its not agreeing with something. It has absolutely no problems running everything else. My 2.1 isn't even close to being as fast as you are at 3.6 Ghz. Its either my system and FSX not agreeing on something or I'm just weak on GHz.
Then overclock it! you'll hit 3ghz stable in less than 10 minutes( I know I do easily), and probably more. I've spent 90 minutes of my life in front of a c2d system, in that time I easily hit 3,2ghz(400x8) 3dmark 06 stable(scoring right under 10k with single card, although I could've broken 10k easily), beeing a poor msi 975x mobo stopping me. Your p5b shouldn't stop you at all, unless you want to do droop mod etc.

Going a bit of topic perhaps, but overclocking is a vital part of the tweaking

I've got a nice piece of hardware:
AMD 4800+ dual core
ATI X1900XTX
2Go of memory

I did all the tweakings of the topic (cfg, textures, defrag) and i've got most of the time between 12/16fps.

Is it normal?
the 20/25 fps of mango are the result of a major overclocking (cpu + grafic card)?

As well...

I set TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_TREES_PER_CELL=800

No bloom, no traffic and no ground shadows.

I added most of these tweaks and im getting steady 25fps over cities like Vancouver, Frankfurt, etc. Mind you my water detail is turned off, i've renamed the default.xml which was a huge fps booster for me and did the .cfg texture cell tweak. Now the bad news, anytime i'm around or landing at a detailed airport my FPS drop to 10fps. I think someone on Avsim mentioned something about the LOD models been crappy and staying in view for a long period of time. I'm going try to decrease the texture files for Vancouver Intl. to DXT1 as a test but I don't think that will fix the problem. I guess I have to fly to non detailed airports for now.

Ok thanks,  i'll try tonight the autogen_tree at 800.

And did you install the modified textures or just the spb modified files (autogen, roof ...)?

Nope, orginal textures. Just the modified spb for trees and trees on 800. This helps a lot.

Btw - the water texture i can run at maximum.

Please try the attached cloud textures. They improved framerates for me but your mileage may vary - post your results here.

The textures have been reduced from the originals and the alpha channels have been preserved. The dimensions have been reduced by 50%. This results in a reduction of the total size of the textures from 39.8MB to 15.3MB.

There were no adverse visual effects that I could see although the reduced clouds do seem slightly more "fuzzy". IMHO this is not bad, just different.

Thank you for that sharing, i'll try it tonight ... and i'll test some overclocking on my cpu ... i cant admit my poor framerate ... i spent too much to have a good hardware in prevision of FSX

Does [BufferPools] PoolSize=5000000 work for somebody ? I'm getting texture loading problems...

Works fine for me, i've actually set mine to 10 million though. It does seem to  improve the stuttering during fast head pan movements quite well, but in turns it doesn't seem as effective. Maybe its just the overall frame rate isn't smooth/high enough. Once you hit the 30-40 fps mark stuttering isn't ever a problem not matter what version of FS you are running. But as soon as you get below 25fps theres nowt you can do about it no matter what tweaks you use. There's no tricking the human eye

5000000 works fine for me.  Noticeably less stuttering whilst panning around in the VC.

Funny, i have to try it again... Maybe with 10000000. After short time flying i got blurry textures and the 'Select Aircraft' screen was smearing.

HI All,
I have a little tip for faster frame rates for low spec computers like mine. Goto FSX.cfg and change

Mode=800x600x32

This is not a resoultion available in game.

I get 12-18fps it does not look as sharp but it plays alot better if you include all the other tweaks that are about.

My spec a
Athlon 64 3700+ OC 2.65
7600 gt OC 620/1500
1 gb ram
250 g sata 2 hd

Hope this helps some of you.

I play at 1680x1050, that probably kills my frames... 800x600 belongs with windows 95, IMO!

the maximum amount of trees per cell doesn't really work for me. I still have loads and loads of trees everywhere, and its killing my frames. I also think I should add more RAM to my computer, I already have 2Gig, what should I bring it up too? 4, 5?
