Description: Every now and again I get the distinct honor to review an airplane that makes me realize why I love aviation simulation and aviation in general. When I was given the opportunity to review the PSS Vulcan I jumped on it immediately. I have always been fascinated with this aircraft. Its very shape exudes beauty. Its graceful lines and elegant shape has made it one of the most easily recognized aircraft in the world. In fact if any of you have seen the movie "Jet Pilot" (1957) with John Wayne and Janet Leigh, and the scene where they were flying, there was this music they played. When I was flying the Vulcan around, that music just popped into my head. It was weird yet it made the whole mood appropriate. Sadly though, there are no more in service. However the last remaining airworthy Vulcan XH558, the one which PSS has modeled, is being restored to full flying status. The biggest obstacle is funding and by buying this aircraft, 50% of the proceeds go to the "Vulcan to the Sky Company". As of the writing of this review, 7500 pounds have been raised toward the company just based off the purchases of the PSS Vulcan. It is a worth while cause to keep a piece of aviation history alive. You can get info on the ongoing project here. Ok on to the review.

Pros: Very beautiful model, sweet sound set, nice VC, and amazing texturing
Cons:

Amazing attentioan to detail! Obviously these folks take pride in the models they design. I would strongly recommend this beauty to any fan of Avro or anyone interested in the history of British aviation.

Pros: Attention to detail
Cons: Model complexity loads up the CPU!

I've always loved the Vulcan since the first time I saw it at an airshow - this one is absolutely spot on. The shape and form of the plane are as you would expect, what really made it for me was the attention to detail. Opening the crew hatch and watching the ladder descend, opening the bomb-bay doors in flight and examining all of the internals - even the extra fuel tank.
Best of all, wind up the Bristol-Siddeley (later Rolls-Royce) Olympus 301's to full power on the runway, speakers up nice and loud - sound is EXACTLY as I remember it. So's the clouds of black smoke coming out of those engines when they're turned up.
Amazing thing is that those engines still needed to be upgraded with afterburners when they fitted them to Concorde.
Overall, excellent value for money and highly recommended for those that want a high-quality change from commercial jets - looks good on 27L at EGLL.

Pros: Interesting 1950's autopilot.
Cons: Got to start with centre tank empty.

Not up to the usual PSS high standards as they kept quiet about the centre tank bug (still don't think it has been fixed on the download version even after a year).

Great to hand-fly though. Download some H-bomb effects from www.geocities.com and go and nuke some targets in the former WARPAC nations.

Pros: Realistic as hell!
Cons: Cant think of any

I have ony one thing to say....Go buy it! Great frame rates and realistic VC and 2D cockpit! I had great joy in flying it non stop for the past 3 weeks in FS2002! Well done Phoenix! If you buy this you will contribute to the restore Vulcan cause also! Also it has one of the best looking plane and sound sets around.

Like the Pringles advertisement...One you Pop you just cant stop.....

Darren
