Aegean GPS Acceleration Carrier

This add on is to address several concerns people have expressed in FSX. Some cannot find the carriers, some cannot land on them to use the facilities. Others like to move around the area on them and so on.

This particular one is based in the Aegean, starting at Chania. The static version allows the use of GPS all day. You can start from FSX on the carrier deck and use the cat launch and all facilities. This without struggling to get on board in the first place. You just use airport code LG57 to do so. You can also launch, fly off somewhere, get totally lost and use the GPS to find your way back to the carrier. You could also fly from anywhere in the world to the carrier using the GPS and the airport code.

Alternatively, turn off the static version in Add Ons/Scenery for now and turn on the moving version. You can switch back any time you wish. Fly to the carrier before 7am GMT (not local time) using the airport code/GPS or just use FSX to place you on the deck from the start with the airport code LG57. Change the time to 06:59 and she will set sail around the island automatically, with you and your aircraft on board. Use the speed feature up to 4X to get around quicker. Fly off a bit and have a look around, then fly back (no GPS use whilst the carrier is moving.....). Best to set June and it will be in daylight for the full journey. The carrier will move about 25 miles every hour so its quite easy to find it. You could go to the tip of the island and change the time to about 6.25 hours after it set off then watch it approaching. Or go to the finish point at LG54 and set the time just before 16:55 to see it arriving at its final destination.

NOTES:

Some people have noticed a raised section of sea under the carrier. This seems to be an occasional fault with FSX. I`ve seen it once or twice occasionally but a reboot has sorted it. I have not seen it for quite some time now.

If you start FSX and elect to start on the carrier deck this should work ok. However, subsequent starts in the same session after flying around a bit may occasionally mean you end up in the drink (briny-sea-whatever). Just pick the airport again (LG57) and it should get you on board. A fresh start of FSX will definitely get you on there. Another tip if its a restart, use the helicopter and just hover up through the deck, then change aircraft afterwards. This will not be changed, please don`t ask.

I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH....

STATIC CARRIER=GPS/AIRPORT CODE ALL DAY
MOVING CARRIER=GPS/AIRPORT CODE BEFORE 7AM GMT ONLY........

Do NOT SELECT MOVING/STATIC AT THE SAME TIME AS EACH OTHER

============================================================

There are two main folders as follows:

Aegean Acceleration Moving
Aegean Acceleration Static

You copy both of these folders and contents into the FSX Add Ons/Scenery folder. Then open FSX, choose SETTINGS, then open the Scenery Library. Choose Add Area and browse to one of them, then press OK. Repeat for any more you wish to add. When done, press OK and wait for it to generate the scenery data.

Now some choices....

If you wish to use Aegean with the Acceleration Carrier then turn off any previous Aegean standard carrier (an earlier download you may or may not have), you don`t need two on the go at once. Now for the next choice, the static version gives you the use of GPS all day. The moving version gives you the choice of GPS before it sets sail and after it reaches port ONLY! So, you could use FSX to get on board from the start menu, then change the time to suit sailing and stay on whilst its sailing. Once its left port the GPS and airport code will only give its start position, not where the carrier actually is. So, do you want static or moving? Choose one not both. The next time you can change to the other if you wish, by deselecting one and selecting the other....do not delete any.

Sailing Times:

Static will stay all day. It actually moves every 8 weeks at midnight, but this is to appear static.

The moving version is as follows;

7am GMT (not local time) Sails from Chania Bay (LG57 is the carrier) past Heriklion (Iraklion-LGIR) down to the tip of the island. It will turn around toward the tip of the island after 27 minutes and reach the tip 5.25 hours after that. It then travels along the edge of the island for 1 hour before turning down the back of the island. At 16:55 GMT it arrives at TYMpaki (LG54) for the end to its rather long journey.

Their are many airports, scenery and points of interest to check out on the way. Using aicarriers2 will also give you more ships and the possibility of flying between them. The GPS and the airport code can be used prior to 7am GMT.

TIP:

Use June as the time of year and you will get full daylight from start to finish.

If making a turn and/or using 2x or 4x speed be ready with the brakes. On the EH101 its advisable to start the APU and turn on the APU electrics, once running cut the engine and apply the handbrake. This will still power the doors and the GPS.
