if u want real performance and reliabilty, u should go for PC Power & Cooling PSUs.

They are about the best, but they migh as well be 24ct gold with the way they're priced.

On a sidenote, OCZ has purchased PCP&C. Perhaps with OCZ's help they can get these units mass produced at a lower price yet maintaining their reputed level of quality?

My money would be on a FSP Group 450W but don't expect to be able to keep the PSU if you're going to drop an 8800GTX or HD 2900XT type graphics card in the custom build you're planning to do.

Alright, so I have changed my mind now. I am almost certainly getting thisvideo card. I typed in X1950 in to newegg and specs wise, it seems to dominate them all.

Now, what would be a good PSU for it? I'm pretty sure that the X1950XT is more powerhungry than the 8800GTS, so I'm probably going to end up needing 500 or so watts.

BTW, turns out it's a 300 watt PSU I've got right now, and it's ATX. It's THISone, actually.

If you want to be ready for DX 10 go for the 8 series. No point in spending 180 USD on a card now and 450 later in 6 or so months.

From what I read, 450 is nowhere NEAR enough for the X1950XT series.

Honestly, I couldn't care less about DirectX10. It's gonna be a good year and a half to 2 years before developers finally start using DirectX10 exclusively.

Like I said, I couldn't care less about DirectX10 right now, especially considering how badly the X1950XT slaughters the 8600 series of cards, yet they cost more. I'm not interested in any DirectX10 games at the moment, and don't plan on running FSX on DirectX10.

Edit: This should explain why I'm going with the X1950XT.

An X1950 Pro with passive cooling outperforms the 8600 series at the settings I run games at (120X1024, 4XAA, 16XAS)

thats just one game, why don't u look at multiple games, because Doom 3 isnt the only game around...

besides, soon there will be only certain games which won't work at all on the X1950...

Crysis and Haze don't interest me. Plus, turns out the 8800 series can't fit at all into my case.

well, the 8800 GTX is about 26.5 CMs, and your card is about 19 CMs, so judgin by your picture, then, yep, your right, it won't fit...

annoying aint it?

but still, an 8600 is still a good choice, because, like i said, Doom aint the only game out there...

Will the X1950XThave any trouble fitting in my case? I'll look a bit more into the 8600GTS, but would still like to know.

And because I can't edit, I'll have to double post.

Apparently, the 8600GTS cards that actually perform good are either 320 or 640 megabytes. I can't find either of these for sale ANYWHERE, and am only finding the 256MB ones. Anyone know why?

Edit: Nevermind. $300 is out of my price range.

Oh, and I'm stuck between 2 PSUs. Any suggestions?

Fair enough. I'm just saying in FSX's case. But I'd rather not push someone to get something they don't want.

Good Day.

You hear wrong. A 380W FSP and below would even power that card.

If your budget stretches to these heights then go for the GameXtreme. It's the better PSU, it's designed also by FSP.

These benchmark figures doesn't include the 8800GTS.

It uses 300 watts at load. I've got a 300 watt PSU that's basically maxed out right now. 380 watts could NOT power it, especially at load.

Would the X1950XT fit in my case though? *crosses fingers*
