I figured since AMD owns ATi, they'd work awesomely together...

No difference.

in fact, u could have an Intel CPU, an nVIDIA Motherboard, and a DAAMIT Graphics card that work perfectly together.

tho it is a possible evil plan (that wouldnt work) to make AMD products only work with AMD products.  it wouldnt work because AMD aint going so hot nowadays.

I hate the DAAMIT term. Used by nub reviewers like the inquirer and fudzilla..

But you do have a point. I use an Intel CPU, a chipset designed by ATi and funded by AMD and an nVidia Graphics Card. They work fine together.

1. Go with Intel for now. But, if you wait, AMDs new chips are supposed to be EXCELLENT! Apparently they broke the 30,000 marks in 3DMark06. And if they do kick butt when it comes to intel, then intel might drop prices, but you never know.

I'd feel like I'd be doing real injustice to to feed that kind of info to someone.

Considering the 3DMark06 record belongs to a 5GHz Quad with Crossfired HD 2900XT's at around 27,000 I somehow doubt a 3.0GHz AMD K10 will match and beat that. I'm not saying AMD's upcoming chips will be crap but you really can't expect a CPU that's ultimately an optimised K8 with Level 3 cache to beat out a 5GHz Core 2 Quad with that big a margin?

The server Opteron versions of these chips will be out soon. I guess it would do no harm to wait a few weeks and see whether they perform any good.

Processor - Intel C2D E6750 2.66GHz Retail - 205$
Graphics Card - EVGA 8800GTS 320MB - 289$ *
RAM - GeIL 2GB DDR2-800 - 97$
Motherboard - Abit IP35-E - 105$
HDD - WD3200AAKS - 75$
PSU - Corsair 520W - 140$
Case - NZXT Lexa Blackline - 100$
DVD Burner - 33$
Operating system - Windows XP SP2 OEM - 90$ **

It would be cheaper with the rebates.

*You can buy a 8800GTX instead.

Why is the E6750 cheaper than the E6700?

It's infact cheaper because the E6600 and E6700 are older chips which have now been replaced by the E6550 and E6750.

It's performance is identical to the E6700 otherwise.

Mul already answered that question

Intel is much faster then 6000+ for about the same price, so there is no point on AMD.

Couldn't agree more! :censored:

AMD currently has the AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ which can't compete with Intel's E6750.

I'm sorry but without any bias, how exactly does the AMD setup make more sense?

Very well but that extra $20 is worth every cent if you ask me, having had hands on experience with both AMD Athlon 64 X2 and Core 2 Duo. I'm not here to brainwash you but I wouldn't be doing my job if I weren't recommending the best pc solution for you, hence my suggestions. Your new system should be good, do enjoy.

Well don't get me wrong. The X2 6000+ is a capable processor but I still don't see the point in it when even $20 more will get you a comparable or quicker Core 2 Duo system that'll put out less power, run cooler and have better upgrade prospects in the future and in turn a lesser expense in the long run.
