Some updated dusk shots of the project.

Night textures are definitely time consuming, but it's well on the way now. I think I've managed to capture that internal glow combined with external spot lights too. All done in photoshop, btw.

Still needs some tweaking and certain objects eg the bins, and the bar structure have no _lm maps at all yet. The control tower needs some tweaking too but it's heading the right way.

Modelling in general is nearly finished. Got to texture up the Military base area and then set about doing the ground polys and lofting the taxi line network.

Looks great Max!!

Did you handdraw those textures or are they photoreal?

I've only been to the airport once, plus there's a Military base there so photography is prohibited.

So that means that there are very few photos on the web. But from what I found on the web I was able to work out what things roughly looked like, then searched for similar textures and did a bit of creative guesswork in photoshop to get things to a decent level. So yes a bit of hand edited work was required.

The funny thing is, pure photoreal textures look crap. You need to dumb them down, blur them a bit for FS I think because photos record shadow and brightness which spoil things generally if you don't have them all consistent, and that rarely happens.

Wow, very nice!

If this even gets half as good as your video's we will have a winner here for sure.

I have thought about learning Gmax and the SDK's for flightsim and try to recreate my local airport for flightsim, but never really got to do it.
The previews look awesome, especially for a first attempt within scenery design!

Wow, your really good at scenery designing

one question, how many planes you did for adding different photoreal ground textures?

and 1 question, what i the world are those red lines attatched to the hmm Mesh?

oooo and another one XD.  how in the world you did those smooth taxyway turns?

Currently set up like this.

The entire airport is covered by Twelve x 1024 x 1024 ground polygons (2 rows of 6) mapped at 50% opacity.

Under that is a layer of green grass texture to dull the photoreal image down.

Then on top is the tarmac.

Currently lofting the taxi line network to go over that.

Then I'll probably add a dirt layer and a crack layer. Haven't thought that far ahead yet.

The whole ground poly setup still needs major tweaking around the edges, some more experimenting with transparecyy etc. to get the right look.

Sorry to answer your other two qns (I didn't read properly)

The red lines are just "CellGrid" tool. It lays down the grid of FS LOD13 cells to see visually. I had to alter the coastline to get it to fit the photoscenery. So you need this tool to get cell info to put into LWMViewer.

The smooth taxiways and corners are done by tracing the photoscenery in GMax with the Line tool first, then converting to Editable Poly afterwards.

It's all trial and error still though. I'm not as good as I'd like to be.

Shot from Gmax.

Just checking out the progress! It looks really nice! Is it gonna be payware?  Newbie question, what are all those red lines on the scenery? to help you locate things?  The ground texture looks really cool!
