IFR vs. VFR Altitudes

Hmmm, in the UK....you can file and fly IFR at any FL.[Providing that you are complying with MSA] If you are flying "Airways" you use the 'Semi-Circular' rule [FL100/Fl110 etc] if you are flying off Airways...you use the 'Quadranta'l  rule, ie 500' separation....but, the "Transition Alt" is usually about 5000'.
So if you file IFR from EGCC to EGSH via TNT you should file ODD[FL] then after leaving CAS, ODD+5[00]. In practice, you are "usually" working an ATSU, so you will [Probably] be given a type of Radar service...[.not going there] and given instructions...If you are VFR, you can Legally fly at any height below FL245 on your own look out........ :lol:
