Hey everyone. I recently downloaded F@H to run in the background while using my computer and during the night while my computer isnt doing anything. Everything is good and dandy so far. It is only supposed to take me about 2 days to finish my first WU. But, I have had a slight problem. I have everything running, but when if I close it to play FS or anything, and then I open it again, I always get core #x errors and it won't start working. Then, if I want to get it running, I have to uninstall it, open the installer, reinstall it, then leave it open to keep working. Its really annoying. I am using Vista. Is this a common issue. Is there any way I can fix it?

Can't you always leave it in the background and simply pause it when you're off to play FSX or whatever? Although, if you're just playing FS9, there's no reason to even stop folding.

iKettles told me that it will cause full screen games to minimize. Does this still happen when its paused? And I guess I could if I pause it. As long as it won't cause problems.

That's not going to happen.
Don't pause it either.
The program automatically throttles down when your computer is in heavy use. Just turn off the screensaver and all that weird stuff that will interfere.

I pause it. it doesnt do any harm. I am almost done with my first WU. 4550 frames done out of 5000 frames. Almost there. Its running on the other comptuer too. That one is almost done too.n 186 frames out of 200 frames at 8 mins 22 secs a frame.

Wo, i just checked. I lost all of the work that was done. It went on to a different core thing. Not fair!
Edit: Any way to get that WU back and finish it from where I left off?

Can't get it back I'm afraid. Keep going though, a 2.4GHz Core 2 should fair quite well.

Not really. My computer has been idle for the past few hours. I havent been doing anything. I have F@H set to use a little more of the CPU than the minimum, but it is still taking 30 mins per frame for a 250 frame WU.

Why such a stingey amount? You have a Quad core

Doesn't it depend on the kind of WU you have?
My first one was a 5000 frame and my processor took about under 2 minutes for each one...
My second current one, a 1500 frame, takes I think 11 minutes per frame.

My current WU is p2417_Ribo_Cl GROMACS Core. Its still taking 30 mins per frame.

F@H is set to use slightly higher than the bare minimum of the CPU. CPU usage is staying from about 40-60% with F@H running while all the other normal stuff for me is running (Skype, MSN, Xfire, Steam, Windows Sidevar, etc).

Right ok. That's fine then. Should be about 25% spread across your 4 cores. Should do quite well. As mentioned, unit times vary. Right now I'm on p3684_seq12_Amber03 GROMACS core and I'm on 1m:22s/frame.

Ok. My only concern is that something is still wrong. I also installed F@H on the eMachines with an Athlon 64 2.2 GHz. It has already finished 2 WUs. I know one was almost done on this computer then I lost all progress, but this WU is only 250 frames.

Keep going. You'll know in a week or so if your computer is processing units alright or not. I suspect it is. I reformatted on Monday and reinstalled Folding on Wednesday. It's Saturday and I havn't finished this unit yet. It's quite normal particularly if you don't have your PC on 24/7
