I thought that when you were just going spotting, they won't allow you past the security gates unless your actually going to fly.  At least, at HTS I know they don't...

at KTUS they let you near the gates without a ticket. well that was 4 yrs ago. they may have changed it now

well near where i live theres the north shore airfield and whanuipai military but the nearest proper airport is auckland international and its awes! theyve got 747s there!
