Bootcamp is fine, but I dunno how it would work running from a Firewire drive.

Should be fine with a firewire drive. At school this past year, I was the aid for one of the tech people, and had to boot up Macs from firewire drives. It actually booted just as fast, sometimes faster, than from the internal HDD.

Im more worried about FS than the OS. I have a whole user for my OSX on my external drive for diagnosis.
