I haven't read too much into LGA1156 but it's my understanding that the features that have been removed shouldn't cause a particularly substantial performance loss over i7 but the cost to manufacture both CPU and P55 based boards should be less. If I recall correctly, the Intel Core i5 750 is a 2.66GHz Quad Core without Hyperthreading. If it can outpace a Q9550 and the Phenom II X4 955 Black then I'd consider it a better buy. Of course the price will be what seals or breaks the deal.

Then I'll wait until there is more info on the i5. :hrmm: Basically, I need to know if it can OC as nicely as an i7 920?

Any idea on release date?

Early to Mid September is what most seem to report and I wouldn't be surprised if big retailers are already stockpiling them in their warehouses as we speak. :hrmm:

So long as the yields of the CPU's production is good, I would expect it to overclock as well as i7 and it should do it without running so hot.

Thanks Mul!

So, I'm at:

CPU: Intel i5 750 2.66GHz
HD: Seagate 320GB
Motherboard: Yet to be determined
RAM: 4GB DDR3 (brand unknown)
GPU: GTX 275
PSU: 600W OCZ (Already own it)
Disk Drive: I was suggested one, it's in a PM somewhere
Cooling: Unknown

When buying the GTX 275, which company should I buy it from (XFX, EVGA, MSI, ect)? :hrmm:

It would depend on how differently they're priced. As I understand eVGA and BFG have the upper hand with warranty and if they aren't much more I'd opt for those. I wouldn't put much extra value on factory overclocked editions though.

I would go with EVGA. They have excellent customer support, and a great warranty if you register within the 30 day period after perchase.
As for the 1156 Release date, I've heard rumors from people working a Fry's and Microcenter that Intel will lift the embargo on the 1156 chips on 6 September.

Go for 6 or more gig of DDR-3 ram! I like the 950 i-Core 7! The 965 extreme better yet for FSX! :P  BTW-- an i-Core 7 only uses ram in multiples of three.

Wait, what do you mean by the usage of RAM?

And I think I'll be going i5 at this point, and overclocking. ;)

I went with the Phenom II X2 550 Black, overclocks easily paired with my gigabyte mobo. It is a DDR2/DDR3 mobo, and I went with DDR2 for now but may upgrade if I can find an article that has factual proof DDR3 is really worth the extra $$$.

I didn't really build it for FSX but it was running about 20-25 FPS with full settings.

I just finished off a flight with an Approach into FSDT JFK with Ground Environment, Flight Environment (weather on full settings, cloud coverage max) AI at 60 % (which is max for most people because I have a :hrmm: ton of AI) all the while in the VC of the PMDG 747-400 and was holding 35-40 FPS.

I backed off my OC as well until my new cooler ships so this was all on the stock clock. It's a :hrmm: of a little processor for only 100 bucks man. I'd definitely take it into consideration.

I wasn't lucky enough to get mine to unlock but you might be able to get it top open up to 4 cores. Or later on down the road you could always upgrade to a II X4.

Also, core i5 uses dual channel memory, while triple channel DDR3 is really cheap (not to mention that you can get 12 GB vs 8 GB with little hassle).

Also, you can probably get one of the "recertified" GTX 285's for about 15 dollars more than a GTX 275.

Save your $15 and go with the retail GTX 275.  Lifetime warranty (EVGA & XFX) as opposed to 90 day warranty on the GTX 285.  The 275 can outperform the 285 once overclocked also, making it a fantastic graphics card when found at the right price.

Well, the 285 can be OC'D, too, and as long as it's not open box, I really don't know how they would put a "recertified" serial number on there voiding the lifetime warranties.

A recertified product goes back to EVGA for testing and if it passes it has a new serial # put in it and any EVGA recertified product has a product # ending in -RX. And that correlates to a 90 day warranty.

I think I'll go with the GTX 275, unless the extra power is necessary for FSX.

I'll wait, but I don't think he will.  :hrmm:

Another 4-5 months, I already have a good system, he doesn't.
