Is this even after a full format of the PC Kezman?

Sorry, my PC skills are quite basic to say the least. What exactly do you mean by that? :hrmm:

I've done that once, was a real pain in the :hrmm:. Do you really think it could be the solution to my troubles?

Only a case of running a disc and adding drivers afterwards, there is obviously something making a mess and you cant find it, format will take care of it!

wynthorpe may be thinking the cause is due to "Windows rot."  Try googling the term for some explanation.  It's pretty common.

Aaah, okay. Maybe that could be the case then... Another idea I just got is to switch over to Windows 7. Is it cheaper for users of Vista to upgrade than it is for people who are not yet their customers? If I would upgrade, would all programs have to be reinstalled then? (quite a dumb question, I know :hrmm: )

It's always best to do a fresh install of the OS and all apps.
My wife and I run 4 PC's plus a laptop in our house and I usually re-image them at least every 12 to 18 months

Unless you have a hardware failure somewhere, a fresh install of the OS with a full format will cure most problems - It's like getting a brand new PC

Okay, thanks! It's leaning towards Windows 7 for me now it seems...

Will keep to Vista for now, maybe upgrade in a few months when more people have tried 7 :hrmm: But I'll still make a completely fresh reinstall of Vista, how do I proceed? (I want to start COMPLETELY from scratch)

The biggest issue I have with X-Plane is the developer themselves (notably Austin Meyer). Quite frankly, and in my opinion, the reason X-Plane is constantly chasing the tail of the Flight Simulator series is because of Meyer's reluctance to make changes to the code and GUI to allow easier development and more intuitive use of the software. Even today the program is very much a one man operation, and Meyer protects the software like no other. Essentially unless you have Meyer's blessing, nothing changes in regards to functionality. Now, the development teams out there have done some to bridge the gap, but Meyer has kept the series out of sight on his own accord, and I feel that the program's biggest reason for not being marketed well is Meyer's lack of vision.

Meyer and team has made some "buzz" about new features and whatnot with the software they are working on, but what better time to take advantage of Microsoft's latest news by marketing the :hrmm: out of the product? I think what is happening is that Meyer is comfortable and has a case of developeritis. His ego kinda gets in the way in this regard perhaps as well. (His ego is well known in developer circles). He somewhat has his little sandbox and doesn't like anyone else playing in it.

Of course, I'll have some people that disagree, but since marketing is my forte I think the developers there have seriously dropped the ball into creating a true replacement, or at least turning a larger market share with the product.

Now, I am willing to be perfectly wrong as time goes on, but as I see it now this is not the FS series killer, nor will it ever be unless those guys over there start considering what made FS such a strong series for independant development companies.

BTW, XPUIPC? What a joke. They make no quarrels that the software is meant essentially to emulate what FSUIPC does. If I was Pete Dawson at FSUIPC, I would be seriously considering talking to these guys and wondering what their intentions are. I don't know much information on it, but I find it rather funny that they are running off of the success of FSUIPC, and claim so even on their own webpage. If Dawson wanted to, I would suspect in a court of law they would have to redo their marketing of XPUIC, and the corrolation to FSUIPC.
I fully agree with this statement. As much as I don't know much about Austin, it didn't take me long to figure out he's a one-man show and his own taste is sometimes putting X-Plane behind from advancing significantly. But I'll wait to see what 'surprises' he has coming for us in X-Plane 10. According to him, the next version will be the most revolutionary one in the series. It'll 'blow you away'. So let's see what he's made of. I don't expect much, to be honest.

Put in your VISTA CD
restart your PC
Press any key to boot from CD
Go through the VISTA install process
Be sure to do a full format of the HD
Once VISTA is re-installed, re-install all your apps (anti virus, drivers, FSX, etc)

Okay, thanks mate! How exactly do I format the HD? Do I get a window asking me "Do you want to format your HD"? Also, not that that I'm a little worried *cough* *cough* but how long would you guess this whole process will take me? :hrmm: (installing all programs, add-ons for FSX etc. also)

During the VISTA install it will ask you if you just want to re-install the OS without messing with your apps...or do a full format........make sure you do a full format to delete all the old crap on your PC.

The whole process will take a few hours. Dedicate an entire evening to do it. Don't forget to do a back up of all you files, photos, music and porn before you re-install VISTA.
I also find it a good idea to download all your drivers first and throw them onto a USB drive (NIC, Video, Audio, etc)
It's also a good idea to goto ADD REMOVE programs to remind you of all the apps you need to re-install later. YOu'd be surprised at how many you forget about

Itunes
REal Player
Anitvirus
Adobe REader
FSX
FSX Add-ons
Track IR
Nero
Microsfot Office
Flash Payer
Windoes Media Payer Upgrade
etc.
The list goes on and on

Hey kezman, if you value a realistic flight model for flight training, persevere with xp! The sensation of flight can't be beat, the scenery' getting better (try jrollons Lesa and .orgs free recent sceneries like shanghai or Hawaii, plus payware inside passage. Many of my vids show g2xpl textures in action, latest ones also the Lesa scenery and javier's gorgeous javelin. Do what I do, fly fsx, then xp, then see/feel the difference. Oh, the eadt 737 handles beautifully and has a dedicated fmc and great autopilot. And the helicopters! Landing one on an oilrig is a very challenging task indeed. Enjoy exploring!
