It does show what the Xplane platform can do. Thats what its about.

We have no evidence that they will even make a Flight Simulator in the future, let alone based on such similar coding. We would have to be really lucky for them to come out with a new Sim that supports all FS9 (or FSX) addons.

On the other hand, let's hope they don't do anything compatible with FSX/FS9 because the engine is so out dated.
In 5 years, we will have unspeakable technology. I guarantee it.

SN
Agreed. We don't know anything yet so it's best not to speculate.

Yes, but now is now. and not in 5 years time.

If that's the case, then let's compare the current status of X-Plane's addon base to FSX/Fs9's.

:hrmm:

The fact is, these "amazing addons that will change the way we fly" aren't even released yet. And once this one is released, there will still only be a handful of addons of this quality available for X-Plane.

Well, ACES can't continue the MSFS franchise unless Microsoft gives them the trademark and copyright rights. I wouldn't want ACES to continue the MSFS legacy anyway. And as you said, that's 5 years from now. We don't know what ACES has in store just as we don't know what X-Plane will be like in that same time era.

@ Peter797:

No one ever said that they are going to fly a particular sim for one aircraft. There are no laws that state someone can't have MSFS and X-Plane installed at the same time and use both platforms, just like there are no laws that prohibit what planes we fly. :hrmm:

you do realize that x-plane releases a new version about 4-5 times a year right?.. along with numerous small updates. so in 5 years, x-plane will be way ahead of anything. A new flight sim will be exactly that.. new. x-plane has been built up and actually greatly improved in each new edition and update.  And with the things that the x-plane guys are planing on adding quite soon.. most flight simmers will have completely forgotten about about MSFS in 2 years time not to mention 5

I agree! It won't be long before MSFS developers start to look at X-Plane more and more now.

You seriously think everyone is going to give up hundreds of dollars worth of addons and hours spent tweaking FSX in two years?

There are still a massive group of people who are using Fs9, a 5 year old simulator. In two years, there will probably still be a decent number of people using Fs9, and many people will still use FSX.

It's going to take a lot longer than two years for everyone to ditch MSFS.

To further reinforce my point, think about how long it takes a company like PMDG, Flytampa, ORBX, Qualitywings, REX, or Airsimmer to develop and release a product. X-Plane could grab the attention of MSFS developers now, but it will be a very long time before we see the addons released (X-Plane versions of the PMDG 747, J41, Level-D 767, Qualitywings 757, ORBX scenery, REX, etc).

Garry Summons over at UK2000 has a compiler which allows him to put his scenery into FS9, FSX and X-Plane. For example the upcoming Manchester Extreme will be for all 3 platforms.

FSX is only now beginning to mature into a Sim that is usable. It now that Developers are beginning to end production of FS9 addons. FS9 was released in 2003, It's over 6 years old now. FSX is only 3 years old, and is maturing far more slowly than FS9 did.

I suspect FSX is here to stay for a while.

From what ive seen from the likes of Javier Rollon it doesnt seem to take as long to develop for X-Plane.

And yes i think people will move over in the next year or two as things start to progress for X-Plane, its begining to really gather pace now and can only get better.

Im not turning this into yet another debate of the pros and cons of each sim, we can use more than one you know! its not a crime.

Yup, FSX will be playable on Max for an affordable price probably 2/3 years down the line.

I think we can all agree on something.... FSX and X-Plane 9 are both pretty :hrmm: good simulators. They both have their pros and cons but..... why cant Laminar Research ever play fairly? :hrmm:

Im pretty keen on seeing the new XP10...Its getting an overhaul based on peoplkes feedback and it looks like austin is actually giving alot of slack to the redesign of it.
