It does amaze me how everyone went from "PMDG would -never- do something like this.." to "OMG! PMDG is SO awesome for doing this!"

That's not the impression I am getting from these posts.

Check some of the other threads, as well.

When there's a VC and systems update, then I'll get on board. Until then it's a -400. Saving the pennies for the NGX.
That's true, I don't want to spend $25 on just the outside of the plane, it is basically a 747-400, but it looks like -8.  Agreed when there is a VC and systems update I will buy it.

And people thought I was crazy when I call PMDG money hogs..

Why is that surprising?  Every company in this world exists for one reason: to make money.

There is a rather large market for the airplanes they make, and people are obviously buying it, so why not?

Would people still be buying them if another company made the same planes, basically just as well, for cheaper?

If the "another company" got the same reputation and credibility, why not?

I mean, basically you could buy a plane from PMDG without looking at it and still know that it will be of very high quality.
Yes, they demand a lot of money but which other company besides LDS offers such accuracy and detail?
Infact the market for hardcore simmers is very very small. If you want to fly a decent big iron there is only LDS and PMDG. no one else.

I must admit, paying that high amount of money is something everyone should consider well before proceeding but what else can you do? There is simply no alternative. Whether Wilco nor CLS or Airsimmer or Aerosoft have yet reached their quality.

However, i still think the 748 Extension is something only the really really Queen-lovers should feel compelled to buy.
If you're more interested on flightdynamics this is none of your interest.

Definitely yes. I won't be buying this.

Lets see

C152 from Microshaft...free
€9 to make it look like a B52
$25 to make it look like a 747-8

These companies are really pushing the boat out to make some money.

I guess the MD11 really shafted PMDG...80 bucks, no wonder it hardly sold any copies!  They learned there leason with the J41 and I guess they are now trying to make up the difference.

All this bad mouthing PMDG is rather aggravating me, TBH.

The flight decks between the 748i and 744F are so close in comparison, does it really matter if minute items like the autobrake selector is in the wrong spot, etc?

You guys are acting like no other developer screwed up a airplane before, or modeled everything precisely (not even Level-D got everything right on their 767).  :hrmm:

I fail to see any relevance in that statement. The 748i is a expansion for the 744F, meaning you need the 744/744F in order to use the 748i. If the 748i was a standalone product, then it would be up there in the same price range as the MD11.

Not going to happen. The reason why these planes cost $$$ is the R&D that goes into creating them. The noted developer would basically be working for scrap and end up losing interest in modeling over time if they can't profit from it.

Already saved some money for a few crucial games this year. Im not sure I should splash it out on PMDG this time.
The 747-800, in all honesty, does not excite me.
I was hoping they made one for a 777, which they confirmed for late 2010. I also hoped they were making one for the 787.

But this one sounds useless. I mean, if you have PMDG 747 already, why pay extra for this as well? Theyre almost the same airplane.

It's just you and Definitely NO.  I have it, and I'm very pleased with it.  It's a great upgrade for the money. Well worth every penny considering the work that went into making it.

i'm too satisfied about this addon - got it yesterday in the evening and that wingflex is so cool - cant stop looking at it. The sounds are pretty fine, and the nosewheel is turning now more properly than in the 744X

Several other people agreed with me, so its not only me.  $25 for a the outside of a plane is crazy.  They didn't even bother to use the 747-400F cockpit that is even closer to the 747-8i than the 747-400 cockpit does.

^Yeah, nicely said! I mean in the end its their decision to buy it or not but lets not pretend paying money for this addon is justifying. So they like it, okay thats understandable. But they gotta agree its just too much for what theyre offering.
