Installing the card now, will report the performance later.  The card is replacing a BFG GTX 275 OC.  Also just bumped my i7 920 to 4.4Ghz, haven't tested it yet at that speed but it posted and booted a few times already without issue.

Under what volts are you running the 920?  Definitely make sure to check if it's stable.  Congrats on a 470 as well, looks like FSX should finally be beaten with that hardware  :hrmm:  But come on, a title like that and no photos?  :hrmm:

I will definitely post photos, and will test the OC with OCCT Linpack.  The vcore is at 1.44.  I am a little pressed for time as I leave on a flight at 6:00A tomorrow, and I have to do homework, laundry, pack, blah blah blah. :P

I wouldnt even try to touch 1.4v on my 920. 4.2ghz @ 1.315 is fine for me and i saw no major improvements from 4.2ghz to 4.6ghz.

Congrats on the new video card and further OC. My E8600 is starting to show it's age a little though it's still performing strong @ 4.1Ghz with its two cores. :hrmm: I can't even get to 4.2GHz or even 4.15Ghz without major vcore jumps and increased temperatures.

I know how you feel.  Even though my E8400 can run at 4.5GHz stable, it just needs way too many volts for it (1.45 vs. 1.2 for 4.0GHz).  They are still excellent processors though.  I've felt the same about the E8XXX series showing its age against these i7's, but I'll hold onto mine for probably another year or longer.

This setup for me is nearing perfection.  I finally have glass smooth performance with no texure flashing at 30fps locked after rotation (I get 20-22 on the ground) with any of my aircraft (PMDG/Captain Sim/Maddog 2008/E-jets/Concorde-X), GEX, UTX, REX, and UT2.  I am using the following settings:

i7 920 @ 4.3Ghz and an EVGA GTX 470 @ 750core/1500shader/1700memory, Prerender Limit=1, 16x AF, 8xS supersampling AA, full screen VSYNC ON 1680x1050x32 resolution

All sliders are maxed except for texture resolution = 10m, scenery complexity/autogen both at very dense, water=2.x high, and no traffic except for airport=minimum and UT2 @ 75% airline.  Also, no ground shadows, light bloom (going to try out ENB), or aircraft self shadowing.

Tweaks:

Frame rate set to 25 within FSX
AffinityMask=12
UsePools=0
RejectThreshold=102400
HIGHMEMFIX=1
FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0
STALE_BUFFER_THRESHOLD=1024
TextureMaxLoad=30

Info on these tweaks can be found at the AVSIM FSX forum, look for the "bojote's fsx.cfg" post, as well as the thread by Kosta on FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.

I just have some texture loading speed issues to sort out now that the FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION-0 tweak has been discovered.

Congrats on the system, its great to finally get fsx running very well.  :hrmm: I have my i7 930 @4.3Ghz at 1.315v, could go a little higher but don't really feel the ned to do so. The performance on FSX is now amazing. Very smooth, I also have a 285gtx and thats overclocked. Even with the 4096 REX clouds everything remains so smooth.

Ian.

You guys should look into running Folding@Home & helping out our team (which has been falling back tremendously!).  Your systems would bring in some serious points!

My main issue would be that I don't run the machine unless I am using FSX, and it sounds like a vacuum cleaner when it's on. :hrmm:

FYI, picking up an EVGA GTX 480 on Monday.  It's what I really wanted, but they weren't in stock last week.  Nothing wrong with the GTX 470, would still recommend it.

That is a great project.  I have had 3 grandparents (2 on my stepmother's side, 1 on my mother's side) suffer from Alzheimer's.

The EVGA GTX 480 was sold before I could get to the store, so I have a Galaxy GTX 480 being delivered tomorrow.  Looking forward to reporting the performance.

With the Jesus tweak, hopefully it will work wonders. :hrmm:

From his report, it doesn't necessarily increase frame rates over a GTX 285, but it is stable under nearly any condition while running no bufferpool, and allows for very high image quality settings with no performance hit.  One person was even running 32xS AA with only a 2-3 fps drop.  16xSAA and 16xAF doesn't even make this card breath hard.

LOL, what a day, let me go find it again, it's pretty awesome, it shows that it clearly out performs the HD5870.

As it should! Nvidia's had over 5 months to develop something superior to the 5870!  But (GTX480), with higher power consumption and loads more heat, not to mention a much higher retail price tag ($100 more), I don't think it's going to draw too many people away from the 5870.

Here's a bit more of a full review of the cards - Click Here
