I didn't see much improvement - still hogging resources. The FPS when the sky is visible from the VC/flyby is a LOT less than if its only the VC or ground in view.

The new 10.04b6 has vastly improved the performance with clouds - doesn't seem to be affecting performance at all now.
I made the updater overwrite the files above - which made no difference to me.
