From what I've heard..  the captain didn't recognize a failure right away, and his copilot (i guess from the relief crew) was actually not supposed to be on duty at the time.

While I can't confirm that immediately, I do know that when ALTN LAW 2 came into effect and Autopilot switched off automatically, the least-experienced pilot amongst the entire crew became PF with the other First Officer (more experienced) taking position of PNF and pulling out the QRH and assisting with ECAM actions.

It was backwards CRM.

Saw that a few days ago. It is not an Air Crash Investigation episode, but it's still good. The new episode by ACI about this crash should be out later this year.

I'm also on page 122 of the Final Report at the moment - been going along a bit slowly. Just haven't had much time to dive into it as much as before.
