wow just saw this from reddit and the way they had it listed was an actual crash not an over run!

Do hope also that Pattyboy wasnt at the controls!

Good job no one appears to have been (seriously) hurt.

It appears this wasn't an overrun, but an undershoot. The aircraft didn't make it to the runway in the first place!

And unless the pictures are deceiving or the plane floated quite a bit after impact, it looks like it was off course.

Yeah i thought it was an overrun too. Makes looking at the pics a bit confusing.

I really should have included some speculative phrase in the title. "Lion Air 737  reported to have over-run..." or similar :P

So this is the 2nd time someone has managed to do a proper water landing? (After the US Airways A320 landed in the Hudson river).

No one knows if it was a ditching or not yet, although surely from the alt it was at it could've glided? And how did 2 engines quit?

There is no such thing as a 'proper' water landing - though Sully was not the first. I believe the 1963 Aeroflot Tupolev Tu-124 Neva river ditching was perhaps the first involving a commercial jetliner without any fatalities.

Plus, another distinguishing factor is that Sully intentionally put the airplane in the water. I suspect this accident have a number of parallels with the 1968 crash involving Japan Airlines Flight 2...

I'm so glad there weren't any fatalities. Now I won't feel bad being excited for the ACI episode :D

Still inbound traffic?

Last thing I would want to see as a passenger on final from the window would be a 737 in the water :whistling:

"And for those of you on the right hand side of the aircraft, you can see a brand new 737 laying in the water after crash landing at this airport" xD
