So i recently acquired $190 to upgrade my oldish pc, i'm not sure how much of a bottleneck a q8300 overclocked to 2.7ghz would be for a 7870...

so i was thinking about keeping my 9800gtx+ and getting the AMD FX 6300 instead!

right now my specs are...

CPU: Q8300 overclocked to 2.7ghz [because my g41 chipset is limiting me :( ]
GPU: EVGA 9800gtx+ overclocked 810/1900/1195
MEM: 4gb ddr3

i threw in that cpu as an upgrade from my e2180 about a year ago to give me an extra boost for some games, its showing its age now though...

i don't know how long it will be before i can get enough money for a new graphics card if i buy a new cpu+motherboard, but i just wanted to get a second opinion..

games i play are: battlefield3, crysis2, counter strike global offense, sleeping dogs, Soldier Front 2 [which uses unreal engine], and of course fsx..

Thanks!

Well, an FX-6300 would be a definite upgrade from your current cpu. Did you already have a motherboard in mind? The thing with the FX-series is they really shine when overclocking. The issue with that is then you need a slightly more expensive motherboard and a decent cooler. That quickly puts you up and over your $190. Of course, if you go without overclocking, getting a FX-6300 and mobo at $190 but you would be severely sacrificing mobo features/quality.

From what I have been able to dig up, the Q8300 would be a slight bottleneck in CPU intensive games for the 7870, but other than that it is fine.

If I were you, I'd do a little more in depth search on google about how much bottlenecking you would see and/or save the money and try to get a little more by Black Friday/Cyber Monday and try to snatch up a new CPU/Mobo/Cooler for some overclocking at a great deal.
