Hi, first time posting.

This is going to sound a really stupid question but here goes.

I have recently got back into FSX and I am still finding my way around. I can set up a flight path and load into the GPS and fly a route on autopilot. I can even do an automatic ILS landing.

However I can't get the hang of manually flying a route. If I depart an airport on say a heading of 270 degrees which is West and then do a short flight around for say 20 minutes or so and then try to get back to my point of origin I get in a complete muddle. I would assume I need to fly 90 degrees east (the opposite of 270 degrees west) but if I look at the GPS screen I can't locate my departing airport even when I change the view by zooming in or out.

Please put me out of my misery and tell me what I am doing wrong.

Thanks

Actually its 180 degrees to your original direction which in your case you would need to turn to 90 deg. You can work out your flight time.

Distance / Speed (GPS indicated speed) X 60. Will give you travel time in min. Using te hGPS speed allows for altitude and wind effects.
