Is there any utility (and prefereable a tutorial) to edit heightmap meshes? It doesn't seem to be in the SDK, and all the stuff I can find is for FS2000.

OK, you need to download fssc
then open it and set it to the airport you're editing
then make sure in the preferences you set it to FS2002
now right click in the middle and insert new Misc. Object>Flat Area
insert your desired altitude in the options box and give you're flat area a name.
You will see 3 points, clicking a line makes a new point.
Move these points around the area you want to be flat.
now save your work and hit the FSSC logo (export .bgls)
add these .bgls to your addon scenery\SCENERY and you're area goes FLAT with steepish edges to blend in with the background.
