Remember boys it how they fly not what they fly. I can recall reading in one of my airfirce mags that a Harriar Gr7 shot down an F-16 :D . I'd personaly rank these airforces in top 5.

1. USA (Because of the enormous size of there fleet both naval and airforce).
2. UK (Because of there tromendous skill in the cockpit).
3. GERMANY (They have a Migs, Tornado's, and upgrading to the Typhoon).
4. RUSSIA (I seen a program on how they use there Mig Fulcrum's very scary LoL).
5. SWISS (I seen there F-18 display at RAF Leuchars tromendoys piloting!.)

I think that no one will ever deny that the US is currently the powerhouse, most complete air force in the world, at the moment.  The US is currently the only superpower left.  But that is changing month by month.

Right now the best thing the US has in the works is the development of the F-22.  That's it.  Because of budget cutbacks they don't have many other aircraft even at prototype stage much less preparing for production.  Every other next generation weapon system is basically on hold.

Russia and China are currently spending a lot of money redeveloping their air forces building and creating airplanes and when they get their ducks in a row, the US will no longer have the only super power status it has enjoyed in the past.  I believe that Russia and China will have the better air power force projection in the next decade or so until the US gets back in gear.

As far as the Israeli Air Force, no one will accuse them of stagnation.  They have taken a lot of our planes and take care of them and they probably are more advanced as a whole than the US as a whole.  Their planes are ALWAYS poised ready to strike where the US has planes in combat theatres and planes based at home that do not need to be combat ready.  Israel has been in a wartime status for a long time and as a result, they are prepared to go.

As far as comparing pilots from one air force against another, that's a matter of personal preference.  There are many great pilots out there and not all of them belong to the US.

the fact is that the USAF is the best. THe IAF is also extremely outstanding. they both are the best in their own ways. Considering Israel is surrounded by enemies they are doing quite wel.

Braveheart
are you joking?  :D  the Swiss at number 5???  Any country can produce a pilot that can make a plane do tricks and wow an audience.  The US has the Blue Angels and Thunderbirds that are devoted to doing just that.  Many countries have aerobatic teams.

An air force is used to project power over distance.  What use is an air force to a country who's only objective is to remain neutral? :D

**Shakes at the thought that the Swiss may come after us. :D

IAF has a relaly good AF. There was a show  a while back and it talked to real pilots, and by far there equipment is really good.

USAF has large quanties of fighters, bomber etc. etc. and is pretty good all around.

But i think Russia is also quite good. They don't have a lot of pilots, but there technology is kick ######. There MIL-24 Hind is really good (which is better, AH-64 or Hind) and there Migs are really superb.

One thing you guys need to understand, is that you see these pilots do these stunts and trick with their planes, such as the Su-37 Flanker pulling a cobra maneuver, but yet you don't understand that they cannot do it with a payload and over 1/2 of fuel. So that maneuver in battle is useless, so that cannot be taken into account as being called as the best AF.

I can't believe nobody mentioned the upcoming F-16/A-10 replacement - F-35! :D

I think it's obvious that everyone will (and should) root for their home team.  A topic discussing the different air force hardware would be a little nicer than one asking for opinions on which one is best. :D  Closing...

Edit:  ...and moving to Aviation.
