Discreet, the company who make Gmax, have recently been taken over by Autodesk who have immediately shown what a money-grabbing, utterly heartless organisation they are by stopping the support and distribution of Gmax.

http://www.turbosqui...tThreadID/18624

This means that as of November 1st, you will no longer be able to download it, and no longer be able to register it.

To me this seems an utterly stupid move as apart from deserting tens of thousands of modders throughout the world, its just crying out for people to download pirate copies of 3DS Max, which are freely and easily available to anyone with a torrent client.

A sad day for modding in general.

Thanks a LOT for posting that ... gonna have to devote several "sit up" sessions to downloading anything and everything that GMAX can use, so I don't come up missing something that isn't available after 1 Nov.

Nice catch!   :D

Yep; unless you have the original author's permission to upload it.

Dumb Autodesk, The whole sim community relies on Gmax for its modelling. They don't realize what they are doing.

Everytime I hear about something like this, I cringe.  :D

It's just another unecessary damper on the availability of tools that allows many to express their talents, and stifles new creations that could be of benefit to a multitude of users :D

You can still use it - you just can't get another copy if your one breaks.

Autodesk has ALWAYS been Discreet.

Discreet was the film, video, and other production software company, that they distributed all of the 3DS software under. Autodesk published everything else under 'Autodesk', that includes all of the AutoCad & Mechanical Desktop titles.

I have a copy of 3DS Max (base for GMAX) and it's a Discreet/Autodesk product.

It's great, blows GMAX out of the water, BUT, it's a bit expensive... $3495

This is for version 8, I won't upgrade so I'll still have V7...
