I'm pretty sure this has been done before, but can anyone provide me with a few step by step instructions on how I can create photoreal scenery bitmaps using google earth. Or atleast link me to an article (if there is one) that details how to do it. I want to make some photoreal scenery for my city.

It has been posted before yeah... I cant recall any link though.
Try to use the search function and see what you find, or wait for someone to get you some info

Not much help. I found a thread that detailed it using USA photomaps, which uses crappy black and white photos, and I suck at coloring them. Does anyone know a way I can use pictures from google earth?

Just use Ctrl-Printscreen to take a screenshot and use the bitmaps from that.
One thing I've notices with the new version of Google Earth is that it ever so slightly blurs the image at the sides, only letting you see full detail at the centre. This may mess up any pictures you use for scenery.

On Terraserver, most of the US is in hi-def, as the images were done with an aircraft. Google Earth only has highly populated areas in hi-def, but they are in color. One doesn;t have to PrtScrn for a Google Earth image, just hit File and Capture Image. The image will be in .jpg, so one would have to format it into a .bmp through a graphic's editorm no problem there, MS Paint will do the trick if you have nothing else.
From there, it's anybody's guess. I'd be all ears, because I wouldn't mind doing a MegaScenery type application for my home.

I tried it once and posted some shots of it. A very time consuming process.

The problems are added to by the fact that the Google Earth map isn't flat - its a globe, meaning that the screenshots won't tile properly.

Yes it's differcult to make it match properly, that's why I stopped working on it.

I use Screenshooter, which saves an image just by hitting print screen. You might find also that Google Maps (same image data I think, but different presentation) hasn't got the same issues raised above - though it has others (you have to get rid of water marks!)
Look at this thread - screenies on page 2 of it, and leads into discussion re Google Maps applied to that particular scenery around the same point. I can't tell you how to do it either from scratch, but if you downloaded the basic scenery package mentioned in that thread, and had some computer savvy, you may be able to get some ideas as to how it would work.

Since the above post, JordanD added his own thread in this forum, which links to what looks like the photoscenery tutorial - http://www.fs2004.co...showtopic=13800

Speaking of which, can anyone help me with the question in my other thread?

Wish I could, Jordan, but I'm a novice at this. Thanks to your thread I can now try creating such scenery from scratch. I did wonder if it was a layering problem - related to where you put your creating in the scenery library list. If the .bgls are in 'scenery' and .bmps in 'texture', I have no other idea on the info in your thread.

Just an observation. Before you try to make Megascenery type scenery for distribution make sure you fully read the license agreement for Google Earth.
