So do I.

And When ever I have it open (even paused) photoshp ocassinally gives Low memory messages.

It says it's using a little over 3Mb but If you close it over 60Mb more free space appeaers in your ram.

I've just been through the lot and slimmed my processes a bit.

I know exactly what's running. and Folding @ Home seems to be a secret memory hog.

It says it's using 3.1MB but when I close it the total memory use goes down about 60.

Have you tried the CL client instead of the GUI?

Yes, but it won't sit in the system tray.

It seems my folding client lost all it's progress (which was getting close to 500) when it crashed Photoshop the other day. So I've uninstalled it. And guess what:

My memory use now sits at around 500Mb with music and firefox, not the 650Mb plus it would creep up to before!

Next time we find an interesting looking project to try someone lock me out of the forum for a week.

That is unfortunate that you are having issues Pip. My linux box runs F@H at 162mb while my XP box is hitting between 300 and 400mb with browsers and vids going..... Have you considered dual booting with a Linux Distro for F@H?

I have Fedora Core 4 taking up 10Gb (soon te be reduced by 7Gb) on my Laptop but I'm never in it unless I'm doing some work on my windows installation like deleting/replacing a stuborn dll.

Oh and I allways export sigs and competition shots in linux so I can use the Gimp with is great JPEG coding.

There aren't enough drivers avaliable for my laptop to make linux functional enough to use:

My Video card drivers don't work
My sound card has no drivers
My WLAN module doesn't even show up
I had to disconect the Timer-AOPC to stop the clock running at double speed. (not really a problem now)
And It won't play music
I cant seem to get Firefox 1.5 onto it, it just uses 1.0.7 instead????

Might take a run at Ubuntu, it seems to have some of the best 'out of the box' hardware support. I prefer Fedora Core 4 myself but if I put it on a machine and have to tinker with it I just replace it with Ubuntu and call it a day.

Does it support Atheros based WLAN modules and AC'97 onboard sound cards?

Not entirely sure, did a quick search but didn't browse thier hardware database.

They also offer a KDE version called Kubuntu if you prefer it over GNOME

I've been using gnome so far so I'll stick to it. I allways have Knoppix If I'm hungry for KDE.

Edit: Just ordered 1 set of CDs. (how can they send them for free?)

It isn't unusual,  other distros have offered similar service at certain points or for certain groups. I've always just DL the .iso image and made my own but today ordered the 5 cds of Ubuntu like you did. Had a buddy order and it took forever so if your in any hurry I'd just DL the iso.
