I notice that a lot of addons use NOVA textures and some of the install instructions say to put them in the main TEXTURE folder.

Others with automatic installation install the textures in the scenery texture folder, resulting in duplicates.

I usually move them to the main texture folder adding/overwriting existing NOVA textures and there is no problem with the scenery (missing textures)

But is it a problem with 2 or more of the same texture or is it beneficial to only have one? I'm thinking here of loading time and a possible 'confusion' on the part of FS, if you understand my meaning!

When FS textures something, it will first look in the texture folder associated with that addon. If it can't find it there then it will look in the main texture folder. If you really wanted to you could move all your textures to the main texture folder and it would still work.

Its not really a problem having both though. Once FS finds one it stops looking, so wouldn't encounter the second copy.

Thanks TCY, that's just what I figured but needed to be sure.  :D

All the NOVA textures are going in the main texture folder.  :D
