If it's flightsim, I don't expect the quality to be much different from a 6600GT.  The benefit of the 7900 however is, you can jack the reso up to something stupid like 1600x! :D

Now, go play real gfx intensive games like F.E.A.R. :D

Seriously? You think that anything over a 6600GT is wasted on FS9?

Since the FS9 engine is old and does not use the advantages of DirectX 9.0 and all the other new things, you will not see the difference in quality. However, you'll see a great improvement in the FPS and will be able to set all settings to max without problems...

The 7900GT card will be very beneficial for the upcoming release of FSX!

I'm sure you'll see an increase in fps.  I may be wrong but with your Opty, I thought your fps would be pretty much smooth 30fps?

You can expect a much larger improvement large resolutions though!

But in terms of "image quality" itself...well it's fs9 isn't it?  You could turn AA/AF to 16x/8x for a small improvement but basically, it's the same game!

A 6800GT gave me some improvements in fps in AA/AF over a 9600XT but the scenery/autogen looks exactly the same.

I didn't mean to hurt your desicion on the 7900 but I was simply saying my honest opinion based on my experience with fs.

God dang it Rick, that makes me want to return the 7800 I just ordered. :D

Actually, I am going to wait for Vista before ordering a 7900 or above card so I can get the entire expirence. :D

Honest opinions are always welcome. :D

You're right, of course. FS9 looks about the same except I can push it harder (100% everything, everywhere, even with LDS763 using 32-bit textures, and still great frames). The latest games look awesome though.

Congrats Rick! Those 3DMark scores are amazing!  :D

I'm glad you got the 7900GT!  You have an awesome system already, and although the 6600GT you had previously was a good card, I think your new  card will unleash it's true potential. :)

Now you can turn up all your settings to the max.  One thing I recommend, you can use dual monitors for a constant wide-angle view when flying with FS, and you'll still experience great FPS!   I've used dual monitors for the past two years, but it was only when I got the 7800GT that I experienced great FPS in this mode.  You can use the second monitor for placement of GPS and other instruments, and you can use it as a side window to increase your viewable area, and transform it into a true widescreen panorama, a real benefit, especially in VFR flying!  :D
