Nope, later. The first solo around the world was in 1933, commercial service didn't start until much later.

Given how hard that was, I have to up the challenege level even more now.

This was a failed aircraft that was in existence during the early Cold War. Among it's most notorious features were:
-An overly sensitive and fast roll rate, the aircraft would rarely come out of a roll in level flight
-The cockpit was in a position that the pilot had to climb a 12-foot ladder to get into his seat
-A complete maintence nightmare with poor safety record and a history of engine trouble

What was this aircraft?
