Roniish, I notice you have the Idaho CAP badge, but not the letter from the governor. You left that poor pilot on the ridge? He's probably a popsicle by now!

I had some good progress in the beta but obviously had to start over in the real game. I'll post a pic when I get more done.

Well here is how far I've gone so far. I had to scroll down a couple of times to get all the rewards in screen shots and what I have represents all the missions but the last 4.

*Edit* Well for some reason my screen shots aren't showing. I'll try and figure out where I went wrong and post them when I can.

*Edit2* Apparently the error was between the keyboard and the seat.

   wow I think all of you have more hours than I
Anyway I was wondering how one can get the instrument hours up??  I use autopilot almost all the time, and use ILS landings as well.. This one has had me stumped and trying different things to get this column up.

You have to fly in IMC (Instrument Meteorilogical Conditions) on an IFR flight plan to log instrument time. Basically, in the clouds.

I may be wrong but I thought that instrument hours only start to count when you have turned Autopilot to Approach when landing. I like to fly in bad weather quite a bit but my instrument hours are pretty small compared to my total hours (see my post above) so I don't think flying in clouds makes any difference, or flying at night for that matter.

Autopilot shouldn't have anything to do with logging instrument time. I've got lots of instrument hours in my logbook from flying the Cessna 172 without ever touching the autopilot. Just popping through a stray cloud here or there most likely won't be counted. Remember that 0.1 hours is 6 minutes. It takes a lot of time completely obscured by clouds to build up instrument time. You need to be in the middle of a pretty solid layer for it to count. In the real world, the rule is flying solely by reference to the instruments with no outside visual references (all while on a filed IFR flightplan).

BTW-Nighttime doesn't count toward instrument time, unless you meet the requirements above.

   Thanks for the insight.  Guess I should try pinpointing the cloud altitude and manualy flying with the clouds.

Thanks for correcting me.

Now I suppose if somebody wanted to bump up their instrument flying hours they could crank up the weather, hover a chopper in a cloud, and crank up the sim rate.

Wait, if you crank up the sim rate, will it really count those hours (like if you go 4X, it will give you 4X?)??

Not exactly sure. I do know that when I fly an airliner on a 3.5 hour flight, and use 16x during the entire cruise portion of the flight, the logbook entry shows the 3.5 hours, not the substantially less real time it took me to fly it.
