Orcas Island by Georender is one of these rare software titles that not only give you some extra buildings in your flight simulator, or just some nice textures. Orcas Island is, like all of Richard Goldstein's creations, a work of art. It provides you with a little piece of 'almost real' landscape in your simulator. An area that lets you imagine you are actually there. It will let you 'hear' the silence on a foggy Sunday morning. It will allow you to hang over the fence at the slumbering airport, taking in the surrounding nature.... until the sound of an airplane engine wakes you up. Pick up your binoculars, like the spotter near the fence, and search for the little dot in the clearing sky. The sun rises and airplanes start to come in, bringing tourists to Orcas Islands, and pilots carrying supplies for the many resorts and little villages and towns.
Orcas Island will give you
• an addition for Microsoft’s Flight Simulator 2004; A Century of Flight™ that will turn Orcas Island and its main airfield from a dull brownish island into the wonderful nature reserve and tourist attraction that it really is!
• the airfield (Orcas Island Airport - KORS), with all its buildings meticulously reproduced, down to the little signs at the corner of the airfield, advertising the companies housed on it.
• a few small airstrips and a floatplane harbor at Rosario.
• the first Georender title featuring GeoMotion (you’ll find out what that means) !
•most of all a wonderful rendition of how the area really looks as seen from the air, based upon aerial photographs that were subsequently hand-painted for all four seasons, day and night !! We just thought we needed to give Richard’s latest ‘discovery’ its own name. What we are talking about are his new, wonderfully realistic, animated objects ! As you will see when flying around the islands there are quite a few of them. Fishermen, Orca’s and other objects. Richard has made sure they are not detrimental to the frame rates of the sim.
These ‘people’ and animals are a big step forward in adding additional realism to the airports and surrounding landscapes and no doubt in future we will see more of these ‘characters’ populating the Georender sceneries and our FS world in general.
