simple graphics, poor frame rates

I’ve tried several other Flight 1 products and was very pleased with their work, that’s why I was somewhat shocked when I tried their Meridian release. First off the external 3D model is very simple and not that accurate, for instance the nose of the real Meridian is much more tapered. The internal virtual cockpit graphics are also simple and frankly look quite dated. This package is touted as having sophisticated avionics, which it does. However I noticed that the frame rates were in the teens and this is on a 3.0 GHz Pentium running XP with 1 GB RAM and an ATI 9800. I soon discovered that the problem was something called a Garmin GPS Trainer running in the background. I tried some tweaks suggested in the forums but nothing helped. Even if they did fix the frame rate issue would you really want to adjust system CPU priorities every time you run this thing? I eventually found a fix. It consisted of replacing the GPS with the default FS2004 unit. The frame rates more than doubled. Considering that this package sells for thirty bucks I find this unacceptable.

This plane has one of the best panels I’ve seen. You really get a feeling like your flying the space shuttle.

Not breath taking model or VC but the panel and some of the smoothest GDI+ Gauges I have ever seen make up with it. A Cute plane that makes GA have a little more edge with glass gauges and speed.
