Description:

SimPlates 2004, is a collection of 18000 IFR approach plates, SIDs, STARs, and other aviation data aimed at the serious flight sim enthusiast.
An inexpensively priced 2 CD-ROM product (compared to the much more expensive but less coverage Jeppesen SimCharts), this is a stand-alone piece of windows software, though most users typically are FS2002/FS2004 pilots.
The approach plates are ACTUAL approach plates, not hand-drawn approximations as in the old Final Approach product. Virtually every approach plate in the USA is included and there are also thousands of approach plates for 50 other countries. An additional 10,000 or so approach plates are addable via the downloadable "PlatePacks." For example, you can get complete UK, France, or Spain coverage just by downloading the appropriate PlatePack.
Approach plates are charts that pilots use when coming into an airport. If you're flying without approach plates, it's pretty much safe to say that you're flying "any old way." Sure, you'll get down ok, but it's not terribly realistic. the use of approach charts is not easy, but just like anything, view it is a challenge to making your simming experience more fun.
There is a complete description of SimPlates 2004 at the website. There's also a downloadable demo. Have a look!
